BBU Ventilation Principles

The ventilation of B8200 is implemented through the fan subrack.
The cold air flows in from the right side of the chassis, and the hot
air flows out from the left side of the chassis, as shown in Figure
3.
FIGURE 3 VENTILATION

AND

HEAT DISSIPATION

The dustproof net is installed at the wind inlet to prevent dust

from entering the chassis. The dustproof net should be cleaned
periodically to guarantee good ventilation and heat dissipation.

Subsystem (BDS). BDS_ID of the master BDS rack
is "000". BDS_ID of the slave BDS rack is "001".

The jumpers (X1 ~ X4) are used for setting whether the E1 cable's
transceiving signal is grounded. If the system is configured as E1
75 non-balanced mode, then insert the corresponding jumper
cap according to the actually used E1 link. In other words, set the
corresponding jumper position to be 1. For example, if the 0th
E1 is used, then insert the jumper cap at jumper (position) 1 and
jumper (position) 2 of X1. If all 8 E1s are used simultaneously,
then insert the jumper caps at jumper X1 ~ X4 respectively.

Note:
If the system is configured as E1 120 balanced mode or T1 100
mode, then do not insert the jumper cap at jumper X1 ~ X4.

Chapter 2 Boards

Jumper X is used to set uplink/downlink long/short line mode and

E1/T1 mode. Refer to the configuration specifications in Table 19.

Note:
Uplink and downlink represent different transmission directions.
Uplink refers to the direction from BBU to BSC/RNC, and downlink
refers to the direction from BSC/RNC to BBU.
Long line mode and short line mode represent the receiving modes
of E1. When the E1 transmission line is long (> 1 km), the long
line mode is adopted; when the E1 transmission line is short, the
short line mode is adopted.
Jumper X6 is used to set the rack number of Baseband Digital
Subsystem (BDS). BDS_ID of the master BDS rack is "000". Refer
to the configuration specifications in Table 19.

RRU
RRU Categorization
RRU is divided into two types: R8860 and R8840. R8860 is the
GSM/UMTS dual-mode RF remote unit while R8840 is the UMTS
single-mode RF remote unit.

R8860 Functions
RRU and BBU form the distributed base station system. R8860 forwards the transceived signal to BBU for further processing. Connecting with BBU, R8860 supports the following functions:
1. With Um/Uu interface, R8860 accomplishes terminal access
and RF link transmission, including: RF signal processing,
channel coding and decoding, channel multiplexing and
de-multiplexing, measurement and reporting, power control,

transmission diversity, receiving diversity, calibration, and

synchronization.
2. It is connected with BBU through optical port. The optical port
implements the following functions: IQ data transmission, reporting measurement information, RF function configuration,
and clock synchronization.
3. With operating and maintenance interface, it performs system
management, including: configuration management, alarm
management, status checking and monitoring.
4. R8860 also has the following functions:

Supports the GSM Phase I/GSM Phase II/GSM Phase II+

standard.
Supports UMTS R99, R4, R5, R6, and R7.
Supports
EGSM/GSM
900M/GSM
1800M,
UMTS
900M/1800M, and hybrid networking of different modes
and different frequency bands.
Supports various coding schemes, including GPRS CS1 ~
CS4 and EDGE MCS1 ~ MCS9.
Supports various diversity modes, including space diversity, frequency diversity, time diversity, and polarization diversity.
Supports the Viterbi demodulation algorithm at the receiving end, which enhances system receiving sensitivity and
channel decoding capability.

Supports frequency hopping.

Supports discontinuous transmission.

Supports Time Advance (TA) calculation and ultra-distance

coverage with a maximum radius of 120 km.
Supports Co-BCCH.

Lightning Protection Box

Appearance

The lightning protection box protects the following signals outside

of B8200 against lightning stroke: RS485 signal, RS232 signal, dry
contact signal, and signal of E1 and FE/GE electrical interface. It
helps prevent leading inductive lightning stroke or static electricity
in B8200 through external cables, protecting the board's interface
circuit from being damaged.
The lightning protection box performs lightning protection for:

8 dry contacts

One RS485 and one RS232

8 E1s
