Objects are very different and you can group them
according to those differences.
You can also describe things by the differences.
What are the different ways you can sort the objects?
How can you describe the objects?
What are the different categories that you can use to
sort the objects?

Assessment
Evidence

The students will be able to sort a group of objects in

pairs by size, shape, color, or texture 8/10 times.
Applying: the students will be applying their new
knowledge of ways to describe objects by sorting them
by those describing words.
Level 2: students will be making decisions on where the
object should go based on their understanding of the
ways to describe objects.
Before the lesson, I will ask students to raise hands and
list some shapes, colors, and textures that they already
know.
During the lesson, students will learn how to group
these objects according to the words they used in the
pre test.
After the lesson, students will be given a group of
miscellaneous objects and then will be asked to sort the
objects according to size, shape, or texture.
While they are sorting, I will walk around and observe
to make sure they are putting the objects in the right
groups.
Standard 7: Global collaborator- Students use digital
tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their
learning by collaborating with others and working
effectively in teams locally and globally.
Students will use the game Oscars Trash Collection to
broaden their understanding of the topic of sorting
objects. After that, they will work together as a class
and sort some big objects in the classroom.
Learning and Innovation Skills- students will be thinking

shapes into different categories.

Accommodation
s, Modifications

When we use the computer, I will get Jalil a mouse to

use instead of the trackpad to make it easier to move
the objects on the computer. The game requires a click
and drag motion, one that is hard to do with muscular
dystrophy.

Plan

3.2PK.A.1- Sort and describe objects according to size, shape,

color, and texture. The lesson will relate to the standard
because the students are learning how to apply the describing
words they learned to different objects and using those words
to group the objects together.

Introduction

Activating Prior Knowledge

their proper place?
How did they go about doing this?

PreAssessment of Students
I will have a group of objects already sorted by a specific
aspect. I will ask students to guess what these objects
have in common.
Modeling of the Concept
First I will teach the students the different ways to
describe objects: by texture (rough, smooth, hard, etc.),
color, shape, and size.
While I explain the ways to describe something, I will
pass around an object that fits that description (ex: a red
object could be a block, a soft object a teddy bear).
Once I have explained how to describe an object, I will
then go back to the sample sorted pile of objects and go
over what they have in common. I will explain to them
what sorting means and how to do it.
After I finish explaining the ways to describe objects and
how to sort them, I will break the students up into pairs
and give them each a pile of objects.
After all of the pairs have a set of objects, I will tell the
students to sort by a certain feature (color, texture, size,
shape)
This will be done enough times to cover all of the ways
to sort an object (4 times- size, shape, color, texture).
Guiding the Practice
While students are sorting in pairs, I will walk around the
room making sure that the objects are being grouped
correctly.
Providing the Independent Practice
In a rotation, students will use the pbskids.org game
Oscars trash collection game to reinforce the concepts
learned in sorting objects into categories.

Transition
After the activity, I will call students back by pair to the
carpet for discussion.
