The Consequences of Global Warming

Al Gore is a politician and an environmentalist. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in

2007. He has traveled around the world to give conferences about global warming.
In 2006, the documentary An Inconvenient Truth was released. In this film, Al Gore
explains in an easy way, what is global warming and its consequences.
First, Gore shows the first picture taken of Earth. It was taken in 1968; 18 months
later, the modern environmental movement started around the world. Then, he
explains what is global warming. He gives two explanations: one shows how the light
waves of the Sun are absorbed by the Earth, then they are reflected back to space.
However, the atmosphere is getting thicker and the radiation is staying on Earth.
The other explanation is given in a short cartoon film. It shows how the greenhouse
gases do not let the sunbeams go back into space. This keeps the Earth very warm
and each year, the government throws a giant ice cube into the sea to combat global
warming.
Oceans get warm too and this causes that typhoons and cyclones became more
dangerous to humans. Al Gore explains why hurricane Katrina was so devastating.
Also, he argues that books about geography will have to be re-written because things
that scientist thought were impossible, they are happening now. For example, they
thought hurricanes cannot form in the South Atlantic; however in March 2004, there
was a hurricane in Brazil.
Also, we have two warnings about global warming. One of them is the Arctic Ocean.
The biggest problem here is that the Permafrost is thawing. Al Gore says that in 40
years, all the ice in the North Pole will disappear. The other warning humans have
is the Antarctic, the largest mass of ice on our planet. If the East Antarctic
disappears, the sea levels will increase about 20 feet. This will cause more than one
hundred million deaths.
The increasing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are related to global warming. This
affects the seasons, because spring comes earlier every year, and fall arrives later.
The consequences are terrible, because many species of fauna could disappear.

Al Gore says that he makes everything he can to explain people how terrible global
warming is. However, he thinks he is failing. Ten years later of the releasing of this
film, we can see that nothing has changed. Climate change is inevitable and
politicians are doing anything to fight it.
Humans will not do anything until a catastrophe affects the United States or the entire
world. When the film starts, Al Gore says that humans think they cannot do anything
to change the Earth. We are changing it and it is being harmful for ourselves. Now,
it is in our hands to make something that will stop climate change.
