Why I Believe This is a Valid Source: This is a valid article because the authors are all
specialists in womens mental health and psychiatry.
How I Found This Source: I found this article on Google Scholar.
Intended Audience for This Source: As this is a more difficult read and is filled with statistics,
the intended audience would be people who are trying to find a correlation between mental
illnesses and domestic violence.
Arguments/Topics This Source Discusses: This source discusses how mental illnesses can play
a role and affect both the batterer and the victim. When the victim has some sort of depressant
mental illness or insecurity, they are more often susceptible to receive abuse. Likewise, when the
batterer has a more unstable mental illness, such as bipolar disorder, he is more likely to react
violently. Although this does not excuse the behavior, it does give a small explanation.

reported past year physical partner violence; women with eating disorders were more likely to
report partner violence compared to women without a mental disorder
A national survey of 34,653 non-institutionalised American residents, reported an increased
odds of lifetime physical partner violence among both women and men with any personality
disorder.
