Biblical Insight

If we do not develop habits by choice, we will develop

them by default. Habits form according to our natural tendencies when we neglect to choose and pursue a more positive
way. The Bible tells believers to establish godly patterns in
every area of life; but how do we do this?
First, we must invest time, deliberately scheduling daily
times for meeting with God in His Word and in prayer, for
thoughtful conversations with family and friends, for development of skills and hobbies, etc.
Second, we must make correct long-range
choices. These can be identified by answering
the question, What must I do to be able to
say with the apostle Paul, I have fought the
good fight, I have finished the race, I have
kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7)?
Third, we must persevere. Paul urged
Timothy to watch his life and doctrine closely
and persevere in them, because if he did, he

would save both himself and his hearers
(1 Timothy 4:16).

CONSEQUENCES
As we apply time, choice, and perseverance
to establishing godly habits, we prepare for

us on track, while our daily steps of obediProverbs 23:33
