Discussion
The Greek word for baptize, baptizo (Romans 6:3), means to dip or
immerse. With this in mind, read Romans 6:114 and explain how water
baptism portrays the union of the believer with Christ in His death and resurrection, and how it symbolizes putting off the old man.
Paul wrote of some who mistakenly concluded that because salvation is by grace and
not by works, they could go on sinning so
that grace may increase (Romans 6:1). Read
Romans 6:14 and Titus 2:11. Explain what
grace enables us to do, and how living in sin
contradicts salvation by grace. How do you,
personally, respond to Gods grace?

Lesson 18
A: N/A
C: Answers will vary.
D: Just as Christ died, was buried, and rose again, the believer is buried under the water in baptism, and is raised out of the water symbolizing Christs resurrection. And just as Christ
died and was raised in resurrection power, the believer leaves his old life behind and rises to
walk in newness of life.
E: Grace teaches us to say no to ungodliness and yes to Him. Grace gives us the ability to live
holy lives consecrated to Him.
