MICHIGAN CONSTRUCTION TEACHERS ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION

Article I - Name

The name of this organization shall be the Michigan Construction


Teacher's Association.

Article II - Goals

1. Encourage professional growth and more effective


teaching.

2. Work for administrative support of programs, full


enrollment and continuance of all existing Construction
Trades programs.

3. Share resources and mutual support among State


Construction Trades teachers.
4. To foster cooperation between Construction Trades
Education, business and industry.
5. Influence policy at the State Department of Education
concerning Construction Trades Education funding.
6. To promote cooperation with the Michigan Department of
Education for the improvement of Construction Trades
Education.
7. To promote and encourage leadership development for
Construction Education at local, state and national
levels.
8. To raise funds by means of dues and other appropriate
methods for the operation of the Association in keeping
with the goals mentioned herein.

Article III - Membership

Sec 1 Membership in this Association shall be open to any


Construction Trades teacher in the State of Michigan.
Associate membership shall be open to any Construction
paraprofessional, instructional assistant, teacher aide
or interested person in a related industry. Prospective
associate members must be recommended by a full member
in good standing to qualify for membership.

Sec 2 Associate membership shall be open to any


paraprofessional, instructional assistant or teacher
aide in a Construction program.

Article IV

Sec 1 The officers shall be President, Vice-President, and


Secretary-Treasurer, and Past President.
Sec 2 The officers shall be elected for a term of three (3)
years. No person shall hold more than one office at a
time. The new officers assume their duties at the close
of the annual meeting of the election year.

Article V - Meetings
Sec 1 Meetings will be determined for each succeeding year at
the business session of the annual meeting.

Sec 2 Special meetings of the Association may be called by the


President, or upon written request of any three members.
Notice of any general membership meeting shall be
conveyed to every member at least seven days prior to
the meeting.
Sec 3 Board Meetings composed of the officers and/or
appropriate committee may be called by the president at
any time.

Article VI - Quorum
Sec l One-third of the active full membership of the
Association shall constitute a quorum at any regular
meeting, but at no time shall the lack of a quorum
prevent those present from proceeding with the program
of the day at a regular meeting.
Article VII - Amendments

This constitution may be amended at any regular business meeting


by a simple majority vote of the members present, providing a
quorum exists.
PROPOSED BY-LAWS: MICHIGAN CONSTRUCTION TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
Article I - Dues
Sec 1 The annual dues shall be $20.00 payable in fall by all
members. Associate members shall pay dues at half the
full member rate.

Sec 2 If dues remain unpaid by October 30, the member shall be


notified by the Secretary-Treasurer not later than
November 15 that the member is in arrears and not in
good standing. Membership will be forfeited if payment
is not received by December 15.

Sec 3 Dues for the current fiscal year must accompany all
applications for membership.

Article II - Duties of Officers


Sec 1 No person shall hold more than one office at a time. The
new officers assume their duties at the close of the
annual meeting of the election year.

Sec 2 The duties of officers shall be such as are implied by


their respective titles.
Sec 3 Associate members shall not hold offices.
Article III - Elections
Sec 1 The President shall appoint a nominating committee when
appropriate and prior to the election of officers, for
presentation to the membership. Additional nominations
may be made on the floor at the annual meeting of the
election year.
Sec 2 The officers shall be elected by plurality ballot. In
case of a tie, balloting shall continue until there is
an election.
Sec 3 Associate members cannot vote.
Article IV -Meetings
Sec 1 All business sessions shall be governed by "Roberts
Rules of Order."

Article V - Amendments

These By-Laws may be amended at any regular or duly called


general membership meeting of the Association by a simple
majority vote of the members present, providing a quorum exists.
