Growth Paper

1. Teaching/Learning Environment
At my Internship I saw that the environment was very bright and had lots
of color to keep children awake and not be bored, there were goals posted
everywhere and all the things they were learning were all around the room,
they had statistics of the whole class. They also had student jobs posted up
so they didnt forget, everyone was in rows because they were talkative the
first week I was there, they moved back the way they were after they learned
its not okay to talk while the teacher is giving instructions. There was a lot of
technology in the room like iPads, laptops, smart board.
This will impact me as a future teacher to keep my room bright and post
things around the classroom so not only my students know what they are
learning about currently, it also shows other teachers or even parents what
the kids are learning right now in my future room. I will organize my desks in
a corroborative way so the kids can discuss things if asked to but if they dont
follow directions I can put things in rows. In the future I will also bring in
different things of technology so I can adapt to future teaching. I will also as
well post my class statistics and see how well I am teaching my students.
2. Classroom Management
At my Internship I saw that the classroom had student jobs so each child
had individual responsibilities to keep the class under control along with the
teacher, this taught kids how to be responsible and I really liked it. When the
class was out of control, Mrs. Stevens gave them negative reinforcement, she
would take recess away from certain students that were ruining it for other
students, of course it was necessary because they were reminded multiple
times. When the whole class was off-task she would color in a coloring book
and if she colored a whole page by the end of the week the students wouldnt
get 5 minutes extra recess. Overall the whole class was under control, Mrs.
Stevens redirected very nicely and when it was necessary, she told me she
felt bad for being too hard on kids but you have to be firm to be able to
control the class.
This will impact me as a future teacher to maybe assign each kid with a
job to give them a responsibility and also help me run the class well while
teaching them that important life skill. I will also keep my class under control
at all times so I can teach everyone effectively. If they cannot follow
directions I can make punishments.
3. Learning Needs or Characteristics

Growth Paper
At my Internship I saw that all the students had different levels on their
ability to learn. There were kids at a very low level and kids that were at a
very high level. The students at the lower level were given more attention like
they were apposed to. They were assigned things that were adjusted to their
level of ability and were given private lessons while the higher kids were with
me during the internship. Mrs. Stevens wanted to get them on track so she
picked out those kids without the other kids knowing about their ability. The
kids at the lower level of ability were in a red color group. The further down
the rainbow is your ability, so the kids with the higher ability were with me
and their groups were between yellow and purple. I liked this because no kid
can find out if a student is behind, they just know what a specific students
color is. To them the colors have no correlation.
This will impact me as a future teacher to secretly place lower ability
students in a group that no one can recognize that thats the lower ability
group, I will give those certain kids more attention and I will get them on
track!
4. Classroom Discipline including Feedback and Praise
At my internship the class was under control 99% of the time. Mrs.
Stevens was really great at keeping everyone under control. When the class
was off task she would sit there with disappointed face and wait to see if
everyone would readjust after. If they didnt then she would color in a book. If
its a certain child she would say their name and then tells them what they
are supposed to be doing and they get on task lickety-split. With the kids
that struggle she has charts for them on their desks and if they do something
right they move a marker up the chart, if they do something wrong, it goes
down. The more it goes down the more discipline they get. (safe seat,
recovery room etc.) She also praises each student very well if they
accomplish something. Especially to the kids who are struggling.
This will impact me as a future teacher to discipline when needed and
always give attention to the ones who need it most because you have no idea
what any child is dealing with when they are at home, so giving those specific
students the attention will help them succeed.
5. Teacher Planning including Methods and Materials
At my internship my teacher planned in a big agenda booklet of what she
is planning on teaching and doing each day so she knows she is on track,
when she gets home she finds a new way to teach each lesson so she is not
using the same strategy each year. She has many things to teach so she has
many materials. She has technology materials so kids can have a better
understanding of a topic online, Mrs. Stevens also has worksheets for kids to

do work on and work on their own, she also has hands on materials like;
blocks, cubes, etc. So kids can learn with their hands and she also uses the
classs ideas as foundations on how she could teach a fun lesson. She has an
issue bin if any kid has a question or idea for the class to work on.
This will impact me as an future teacher to incorporate lots of different
ways of teaching in every lesson so it can fit every students learning styles. I
can also listen to the kids who want to learn something in a different way.
6. Assessment of Learning
At my internship I observed for two weeks and I studied that Mrs. Stevens
is a great teacher! She not only taught kids many lessons but she also taught
me how to be a teacher! If any kid had certain question about a topic she
would stop what she was doing, and help that specific student achieve. She
took notes on how certain kids were acting and how they were achieving
academically. The students that were struggling of course were focused more
on the note taking. After each reading group she would write down what she
can do next time and notes on how each kid was doing, she also let me do
that as well. She took notes on every student and where they were at. She
was very organized and thats not to be expected as a new teacher, she
seemed like a teacher with years and years of experience. She knew exactly
what she was doing and will be a great part of the Park Hill School District.
This will impact me as a future teacher to give every student attention
and take notes every lesson on where a student is academically and
behaviorally. If I can do that I can easily get every student on track and be a
great teacher!
