Preview the Materials: The materials to be used for this lesson were designed to fit the class needs.
All items chosen were created by the teacher to reach all learning styles of the students. The teacher
will make sure that all material being used is working properly and ready for student use.
Prepare the Materials: The teacher set up the PowerPoint and video before the lesson begins. All
equipment will be inspected. T-charts will be on students desk before they are instructed to come to
the meeting area.
Prepare the Environment: The seating will be arranged so that the SmartBoard is viewable to all
students. The speakers will be an area so that all students are able to hear the video. The PowerPoint
will only be used for the first 10 minutes of the lesson each day.
Prepare the Learners: The teacher will talk to the students about the lesson and what they should
expect and prepare to learn. The teacher will also tell students what they will need to do at the end of
each lesson (3 days).
Provide the Learning Experience: Students will be given a t-chart to list things that they know, think
they know, or have heard about fact and opinion. We will use a Kagan strategy where they will be given 1
minute of think time, and 1 minute to write down what they have thought about. We will come back
together as a class and watch a Brainpop Jr. video about fact and opinion. Students and teacher will
engage in a discussion about what they have listed on their t-charts and what new information they have
learned from the video. We will begin with the PowerPoint lesson for Day 1. The first two slides give
definitions of fact and opinion and multiple examples of each. The class will discuss what new
information they have learned and add it to their t-charts. Each day we will use the I do, we do, you do
method to keep engagement high and making sure that students are grasping the skill being taught.
After each lesson, the teacher will adjust any information as needed.

Require Learner Participation

Students will remain engaged throughout the lesson. During the lesson, students will answer multiple
questions. All students know the procedures for whole group participation. Names are pulled from a bag
so that everyone gets an opportunity to participate. This also gives those who struggle an opportunity to
hear other responses and formulate their own answers. Students will work with partners and they will
also complete independent work.
