PTV Visum is the world's leading software for traffic analyses, forecasts and GISbased data management. It consistently models all road users and their interactions
and has become a recognized standard in the field of transport planning.
Transportation experts use PTV Visum to model transport networks and travel
demand, to analyse expected traffic flows, to plan public transport services and to
develop advanced transport strategies and solutions
Modelling bicycles puts PTV Vissim in the hunt for the Mobility Solution of the
Year award
PTV Group is one of the finalists of the European IT & Excellence Awards
2014. The German software vendor entered with a customer project that deals
with modelling cyclists in detail using the microsimulation tool PTV Vissim.
The way PTV Group tailored the existing solution due to the customers needs
convinced the jury to nominate PTV Vissim for the Mobility Solution of the
Year award. The winners will be announced by IT Europa on 26 March 2014
in London.
Many cities are envious of the way the City of Copenhagen has encouraged and
promoted sustainable bicycle travel
The city called on the Danish consulting group COWI for help with technical
preparation and implementation. Because Copenhagen has been using PTV Vissim
software previously to simulate motorized traffic, it was an obvious step to
integrate bicycle traffic into the model in order to be able to work with an all-inone solution.
Thailand a popular holiday destination for visitors all over the world.
Politically speaking, the country is largely seen as safe. Road transport,
however, is among the most dangerous in the world.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), around 24,000 people die in
Thailand each year as a result of road accidents, which is equivalent to 38.1 per
100,000 inhabitants. This is why the country is in third place worldwide for
accident statistics. In addition to the serious social impact, the accident rate also
has a heavy toll on the economy.
On 17 October 2014, the Thai Society for Transportation and Traffic Studies
invited people to the Actions for Road Safety in Thailand Seminar at the
Ministry of Transport in Bangkok. Prominent politicians, Ministry of Transport
staff, high-ranking police officers, representatives of NGOs and universities,
consultants and logistics companies attended the event. Their common goal is to
reduce the accident rate and improve road safety.
The PTV Group, which is heavily involved in the area of road safety, gave a talk
on the topics of transport planning and safety. We were able to show vividly how
important historical accident data are for road safety efforts and how accident
prediction models are already facilitating preventive safety efforts in the initial
planning stages. It is now a question of harnessing the data and software potential
to reduce accidents.

Some people dedicate their lives to saving millions of others.
One such person is Paulo Humanes, Director Strategic Business Development
and Corporate Marketing at the PTV Group, who works towards making
transport projects safer and more effective around the whole world. The
Portuguese has already spearheaded 100 road safety audits in different parts
of the world, and he is currently responsible for leading strategic projects in
association with organisations such as the World Bank, the African
Development Bank and the United Nations.
While visiting Brazil, Humanes was one of the mentors at the recent road safety
workshopcarried out by EMBARQ, PTV Group and Newcastle University, in Rio
de Janeiro. During the week, technical experts from the Companhia de Engenharia
de Trfego [the Traffic Engineering Company] in Rio and So Paulo, professors
from the countrys leading universities and international specialists from the
EMBARQ network received guidance and discussed the methods to successfully
curb the high rate of road traffic accidents in Brazil to which 44,800 people lose
their lives every year in the country.
