A List of People and Experiences That Makes Me Who I am
Today By Kelly Gaule
My Grand Valley Science Classes
Over my five years at GVSU I have gone through many science classes that taught me what science really is and how to implement it in school. Because of this, I believe that students must learn by doing science and be an active participant of their learning in any subject. Grand Valleys Childrens Enrichment Center I have worked at GVSU CEC for 4 years and have learned so much about how children operate and how to build confidence as a teacher. My experiences here helped me shape my student behavior practices and taught me to always be prepared for anything in the classroom. Mrs. Keener Mrs. Keener was my 5th grade science teacher who showed me how to love school and inspired me to become a teacher. She presented material in a way that all students could learn and be engaged in. She also made every student feel important. My Dad My Dad became a high school science teacher when I was in 3rd grade. He exhibits a passion for teaching and a love of science and nature that I hope to see in myself. He teaches in a very active and interesting manner where students are always amazed by his knowledge. I strive to be like this in my own classroom. The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander I read this book in a Race and Ethnicity class I took at Grand Valley and it forever changed my view on our society and culture. I learned so much about things I have never thought of. Now, I put the concepts in this book and everything I learned in that class into consideration when interacting with people. Silent Spring by Rachel Carson This book taught me so much about the detrimental effects of pesticides as well as the importance of environmental conservation. I am truly inspired by Carsons work to protect the environment as well as being a strong woman in science. Reading Magic by Mem Fox
This book emphasizes the importance of reading to
children and inspired me to pass on my passion of reading to others.
