1. Installation Instructions for SAP2000 Version 11.0.4

The installation instructions are available in three places:
- The SAP2000 Installation Card link on the SAP2000 CD browser.
- A printed document included with the program package.
- In the file SAP_Install_Instructions.pdf in the root folder of the CD.
The instructions include information about the software protection system used and installation
options and instructions. You can choose between a Standalone or Network installation.
For new Network installations, see the System Administrator's Help for more detailed information
about the License Manager and the License Manager Administration program WlmAdmin.exe.
This installation contains Sentinel RMS License Manager 8.0.5. You MUST install this
version to serve network licenses for SAP2000 Version 11. If you are currently running an earlier
version of SentinelLM then it must be uninstalled prior to installing this version. IMPORTANT!
All commuter licenses should be checked in before uninstalling the old version. Note that Sentinel
RMS License Manager 8.0.5 will recognize older licenses for Computer and Structures products.
Please refer to the SAP2000 Installation Card or the SAP_Install_Instructions file for information
on how to do this.

For Network installations you can create a text file, Level.txt, and put the Program Level in it. Save
this file to the License Manager sub-folder of the SAP2000 folder. This file will cause the program
to find the license faster. Note that this file will be included when a new license is sent.
If you experience problems with the license please refer to the appropriate License Trouble
Shooting Guide... located in the SAP2000 folder.

2. File Compatibility
SAP2000 Version 11 can open model files (*.SDB) from older versions of SAP2000, as well as
import older SAP2000 database files (*.S2K, *.$2K, *.XLS, and *.MDB.) Note that once you save
or run these models in Version 11, they will not be usable by older versions of the program, so you
may want to save them under a new name after opening or importing them in Version 11.

3. Updating older Version 10

SAP2000 Version 11.0.0 is a full installation and can coexist with older versions of SAP2000.

4. Updating older Version 11.x.x using the patch from the ftp
SAP2000 Version 11.0.4 is available as a patch from V11.x.x and as a full installation. When
applying the patch, only updated files are included in the zipped patch file. These should be
extracted in the folder where the current program is.
Workstation installations being served from a file server that do not allow .chm files to be opened
on the network may need the file SAP2000_API_Documentation.chm to be updated on the
workstation for V11.0.4.
If the program will not run after patching, please do the following: In Windows Explorer or My
Computer, go to the folder where SAP2000 is installed. Right-click on SAP2000.exe, and choose
Run As, and run as an administrative user. This will re-register the program. You should only
need to do this once. If you do not have administrative rights, please contact your IT department.

5. Significant Changes from Version 11.0.0

Changes from Version 11.0.3/1 to Version 11.0.4 (issued 05/10/2007)
- Access to the SAP2000 API (Application Programmers Interface) no longer requires a
separate license. However, technical support for this feature is only provided for qualified
subscribers to the CSI Developer Network (CSIDN). Please see our web site for more
information: http://csiberkeley.com/support_api.html
- Fiber hinges can now be generated automatically for the following steel frame sections:
wide flange, pipe, and tube.

The previous patch v11.0.3/1 did not run on some Windows Vista and XP machines due to
registry incompatibility with v11.0.2 and earlier. The present patch (v11.0.4) is compatible
with v11.0.2. If you have installed v11.0.3/1, and now have trouble running v11.0.4, then
please follow the instructions in Section 4 above.
A bug has been fixed in which the Cb calculation for the AISC2005/IBC2006 steel design
code was previously over-conservative.
A bug was fixed in which moving load results were not being calculated for cable objects,
including axial force in the cables, reactions at joints connected to cables, and section cuts
through cables; these are all now fixed. Displacement plots for cables under moving loads
are still not correct, but the displacements at the joints connected to cables are correct.
A bug has been fixed in which non-prismatic girders in bridge deck sections were not
always correctly generated. Models using this feature should be re-analyzed.
A bug has been fixed in which chord and brace diaphragms for bridge objects did not
always use the correct sections. Models using this feature should be checked.
A bug was fixed in which non-prismatic columns in bridge bents/piers were not correctly
generated. Models using this feature should be re-analyzed.
A bug was fixed in which notional loads were not correctly calculated for loads applied in
any direction other than global Z. Models using notional loads should be checked and reanalyzed.
A bug was fixed in which bridge prestress tendons could not use time-dependent materials.
A bug was fixed in which shell joint offsets and thickness overwrites only accepted integer
values in the database tables.
A bug was fixed in which display of hinge results plot sometimes caused a crash.
Several import bugs have been fixed:
o Import of some STRUDL/STAAD models failed on shell elements.
o Import of AutoCAD .DXF files failed on triangular shell elements.
o Open or import of some SAP2000 v10 models failed on non-prismatic frame
elements.
o Open or import of some SAP2000 v8 models failed.
Other minor bug fixes and enhancements.

Changes from Version 11.0.3 to Version 11.0.3/1 (issued 04/17/2007)

- A bug was fixed in which the reported results for absolute velocity and absolute
acceleration in steady-state and PSD analysis cases were incorrect. The relative velocities
and accelerations were correct. Now the relative and absolute values will be the same.
- A bug was fixed that sometimes caused design with deflection optimization to crash.
- A bug was fixed in which the positive hardening slopes of frame hinges sometimes had
their stiffness being limited. This could affect analysis results, particularly for flexible
members with steep hardening slopes. Most hinges were not affected, especially if the
frame object was subdivided or auto-meshed.
- Other minor bug fixes and enhancements.
Changes from Version 11.0.2 to Version 11.0.3 (issued 04/10/2007)
- The API has now been completed for SAP2000 V11. All design preferences, overwrites and
results can now be accessed through the API.

A bug that sometimes caused incorrect creep/shrinkage results in staged construction has
been fixed. This bug was introduced in 11.0.2 and does not affect previous versions.
A bug that caused moment results to have the incorrect sign in linear analyses of layered
shells has been fixed. The values were correct: only the sign was wrong, only for layered
shells, and only for linear analyses.
Other minor bug fixes and enhancements.

Changes from Version 11.0.1 to Version 11.0.2 (issued 03/20/2007)

- A bug that caused default rebar material properties to be used in concrete column design
and concrete column hinges has been fixed.
- A bug that caused some underground structure templates not to work correctly has been
fixed.
- A bug, which did not properly account for the initial stresses in cables that must be
stretched when added in staged construction, has been fixed. Analysis results may change.
- A bug, which incorrectly loaded cable elements that were already present in staged
construction, has been fixed. Analysis results may change.
- A bug, which affected target-force iteration in staged construction, has been fixed. Also,
target-force iteration convergence behavior has been improved. You may now specify an
iteration acceleration parameter in the nonlinear static analysis-case definition.
- The cable shape calculator has been improved. It is possible that this could result in small
changes in cable lengths for some models created in previous versions, resulting in some
change in analysis results.
- A rare bug affecting frame loading has been fixed. For this to affect results, the following
conditions need to occur simultaneously: Nonlinear static analysis applying multiple load
cases, where the second or subsequent load case includes gravity or distributed load on a
frame element with partial fixity (moment or shear) at end I.
- A bug, in which the British HA vehicle load did not properly account for loaded-length
effect, has been fixed. The load is reduced with increased loaded length, but only so far as
results in maximum effect on the structure.
- Control has been added for line-search iteration in nonlinear static and nonlinear directintegration time-history analysis cases, although it is presently only active for time-history
analysis.
- Control has been added for event-to-event iteration in nonlinear static and nonlinear directintegration time-history analysis cases, although it is presently only active for nonlinear
static analysis.
- Constraint modeling to attach bridge substructure to superstructure at abutments for shell
models has been improved.
- Changed how Modify Undeformed Geometry command works providing for better user
convergence control.
- Other minor bug fixes and enhancements.
Changes from Version 11.0.0 to Version 11.0.1 (issued 02/07/2007)
- The API add on license can now be added to all levels of the program. It no longer requires
the Advanced level.
- A bug, which prevented the analysis from running when Chinese characters were included
in the file path, has been fixed.

A bug, which prevented the drawing of steep cables with certain specified sags or tensions,
has been fixed. Analysis results should not change.
Other minor bug fixes.

7. Changes in Analysis Results from Version 10

Several changes have been made to the analysis engine to improve the convergence behavior for
nonlinear static and time-history analysis. These changes may cause some analysis results to
change from Version 10 to Version 11. These are discussed in the CSI Analysis Reference Manual
that ships with Version 11 (in PDF file format), and are briefly described below:

Negative slopes of Frame hinges are now limited by the elastic stiffness of the elements.
The purpose of this is to decrease convergence difficulties that can result from elastic snapback that is caused by rapid strength loss. Nonlinear analysis results may change
significantly from Version 10 for models with frame hinges that exhibit strength loss. If you
want to retain the sharp drop-off behavior, you can mesh your Frame objects to use smaller,

stiffer elements. However, we would like to encourage you to use realistic negative slopes
whenever possible.
Automated displacement control has been added to the conjugate displacement method for
nonlinear static pushover analysis. This may cause some nonlinear static analysis results to
change slightly due to following a different iteration path.
An automated line-search algorithm has been added to the iteration strategy for nonlinear
direct-integration time-history analysis. This may cause some analysis results to change
slightly due to following a different iteration path.
