For Network installations you can create a text file, Level.txt, and put the Program Level in it. Save
this file to the License Manager sub-folder of the SAP2000 folder. This file will cause the program
to find the license faster. Note that this file will be included when a new license is sent.
If you experience problems with the license please refer to the appropriate License Trouble
Shooting Guide... located in the SAP2000 folder.
2. File Compatibility
SAP2000 Version 11 can open model files (*.SDB) from older versions of SAP2000, as well as
import older SAP2000 database files (*.S2K, *.$2K, *.XLS, and *.MDB.) Note that once you save
or run these models in Version 11, they will not be usable by older versions of the program, so you
may want to save them under a new name after opening or importing them in Version 11.
4. Updating older Version 11.x.x using the patch from the ftp
SAP2000 Version 11.0.4 is available as a patch from V11.x.x and as a full installation. When
applying the patch, only updated files are included in the zipped patch file. These should be
extracted in the folder where the current program is.
Workstation installations being served from a file server that do not allow .chm files to be opened
on the network may need the file SAP2000_API_Documentation.chm to be updated on the
workstation for V11.0.4.
If the program will not run after patching, please do the following: In Windows Explorer or My
Computer, go to the folder where SAP2000 is installed. Right-click on SAP2000.exe, and choose
Run As, and run as an administrative user. This will re-register the program. You should only
need to do this once. If you do not have administrative rights, please contact your IT department.
The previous patch v11.0.3/1 did not run on some Windows Vista and XP machines due to
registry incompatibility with v11.0.2 and earlier. The present patch (v11.0.4) is compatible
with v11.0.2. If you have installed v11.0.3/1, and now have trouble running v11.0.4, then
please follow the instructions in Section 4 above.
A bug has been fixed in which the Cb calculation for the AISC2005/IBC2006 steel design
code was previously over-conservative.
A bug was fixed in which moving load results were not being calculated for cable objects,
including axial force in the cables, reactions at joints connected to cables, and section cuts
through cables; these are all now fixed. Displacement plots for cables under moving loads
are still not correct, but the displacements at the joints connected to cables are correct.
A bug has been fixed in which non-prismatic girders in bridge deck sections were not
always correctly generated. Models using this feature should be re-analyzed.
A bug has been fixed in which chord and brace diaphragms for bridge objects did not
always use the correct sections. Models using this feature should be checked.
A bug was fixed in which non-prismatic columns in bridge bents/piers were not correctly
generated. Models using this feature should be re-analyzed.
A bug was fixed in which notional loads were not correctly calculated for loads applied in
any direction other than global Z. Models using notional loads should be checked and reanalyzed.
A bug was fixed in which bridge prestress tendons could not use time-dependent materials.
A bug was fixed in which shell joint offsets and thickness overwrites only accepted integer
values in the database tables.
A bug was fixed in which display of hinge results plot sometimes caused a crash.
Several import bugs have been fixed:
o Import of some STRUDL/STAAD models failed on shell elements.
o Import of AutoCAD .DXF files failed on triangular shell elements.
o Open or import of some SAP2000 v10 models failed on non-prismatic frame
elements.
o Open or import of some SAP2000 v8 models failed.
Other minor bug fixes and enhancements.
A bug that sometimes caused incorrect creep/shrinkage results in staged construction has
been fixed. This bug was introduced in 11.0.2 and does not affect previous versions.
A bug that caused moment results to have the incorrect sign in linear analyses of layered
shells has been fixed. The values were correct: only the sign was wrong, only for layered
shells, and only for linear analyses.
Other minor bug fixes and enhancements.
A bug, which prevented the drawing of steep cables with certain specified sags or tensions,
has been fixed. Analysis results should not change.
Other minor bug fixes.
Negative slopes of Frame hinges are now limited by the elastic stiffness of the elements.
The purpose of this is to decrease convergence difficulties that can result from elastic snapback that is caused by rapid strength loss. Nonlinear analysis results may change
significantly from Version 10 for models with frame hinges that exhibit strength loss. If you
want to retain the sharp drop-off behavior, you can mesh your Frame objects to use smaller,
stiffer elements. However, we would like to encourage you to use realistic negative slopes
whenever possible.
Automated displacement control has been added to the conjugate displacement method for
nonlinear static pushover analysis. This may cause some nonlinear static analysis results to
change slightly due to following a different iteration path.
An automated line-search algorithm has been added to the iteration strategy for nonlinear
direct-integration time-history analysis. This may cause some analysis results to change
slightly due to following a different iteration path.
