Dear Stephanie Phillips:
I am very pleased and excited to be able to join your group of 8 th Grade and English
Language Arts teachers this year. I plan on helping to create or spark an interest in my
students for English. I am determined to find a way to relate what my students will be
learning in my classroom to their everyday lives and their interests. My classroom will be
student centered and learning will largely be based on questions that arise from the
readings that the students do.
This year I plan to focus on these particular areas in my classroom

Build and enhance writing skills

Build and enhance knowledge and use of grammar.
The refugee experience through Inside Out and Back Again
The universal appeal of Shakespeare
Enhance independent reading skills

My homework policy will mirror that of the schools policy. My students will be required to
turn in all of their work on time. If the parent provides administration and myself with an
excused absence, then the student will be able to turn in work the next school day
following their return. This can be changed or modified for larger assignments or
projects.
I am very excited to work together to make this the best year ever!
Sincerely,

Brittney Bazuin

Dear Parent,
I would like to start off by saying that your student is such an asset to my class. The
participation is constant and a positive in my classroom. Your student brings wonderful
thoughts and ideas to the table, whether it be during individual, small group, or whole
class discussion or activity. I am writing to you today because I am concerned about the
current grade that your student is getting in my class.
Where I am most worried with your student is with homework completion and
submission. What little homework is turned in, is lacking in completion. The students
have interactive notebooks due every week. On the left side of the notebook the student
is to simply take notes. On the right side of the notebook, the students can explain what
those notes mean to them. They can do this in any form. This includes drawings, writing,
pictures, etc. When your student writes on the interactive right side of the notebook
there is a mere simple sentence, but the majority of the time there is nothing there.
These are very easy points because the students can do this however they would like.
Quarter grades are due at the end of next week and I would like to see your student
improve and have a better grade in my class. I am willing to give your student a 75% on
each correct homework assignment that is late if it is turned in by October 1; grades are
due the third. If your student is able to turn in the 7 missing homework assignments in
the next two weeks, a 75% on each will bring the students grade up to a low C. The
missing assignments are:
1. Interactive notebook pages (2 days of notes)
2. AIR Reading Log
3. A Midsummer Nights Dream plot diagram
4. A Midsummer Nights Dream reading questions (these were done in class and the
student had the opportunity to copy down answers).
5. Vocabulary activities for lesson 3-4 ( the answers for these were gone over in
class
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have for me.
Thank you for all of your support
