the criteria for CRP.
By experiencing what it would be like to have claws, they will get a
personal touch of what this would be like.

ADAPTATIONS FOR LEARNERS

MODIFICATIONS FOR ELs
By using a hands on
project, students will be
able to learn while
developing their English
vocabulary.

RATIONALE
Students will be learning
through investigation
which is excellent because
if the students English
isnt strong then they are
still capable of learning

REFLECTION

while developing their

English.

MODIFICATIONS FOR
Special Challenges
For a student with ADHD,
there are many different
aspects of the lesson so
they wont be sitting sit
long. They will be able to
get up move, manipulate
and learn from a variety of
sources.

RATIONALE
By being able to learn
through investigating, the
child will benefit because
they wont be required to
sit still. Instead, they will
be able to put their energy
towards learning.

REFLECTION

Multiple Intelligences
Addressed
Visual SpatialBodily-Kinesthetic- By
stimulating the crabs
claws.
Interpersonal- Working
with different people at
their table
Interpersonal- Students
will be sharing their
predictions with the class.

RATIONALE
By using all of these
intelligences, students will
be able to learn through a
variety of different ways.
They will learn through
different styles so that all
students can learn through
styles that they will
benefit most from.

REFLECTION

Claw Handout

INTO, THROUGH, and BEYOND

INTO
T. will ask students If you
had claws, how do you
think it would change the
way you eat?
Students will write their
answers on their papers and
do a round table to share
their answers.
T. will then show students a
video of a crab using its
claws to feed.

RATIONALE

THROUGH
Teacher will pass around
household items
(clothespins, chopsticks,
tongs) for claws. T. will
pass out small objects
such as rice, beans,
pennies, juice caps as
food.

RATIONALE
By using household
items as claws, students
will gain an
understanding of how
crabs move around and
their ability to pick items
up with their claws.
By making predictions,
students will use their
higher level thinking
skills. They will compare
the outcome to their
prediction through
investigation.

T. will explain that the

objects are their claws
while the small objects are
food. The class will
observe the claws and
make predictions about
what claws will be the
most successful on their
handout.
Students all share their
predictions and the
teacher will log it on the
board.
Students will then use the
different tools to pick up
items.
After all the students have
gone, the teacher will ask
the class to compare their
predictions to their results.

Concept development i.e.

development of definition

REFLECTION

Students will have to

think about how claws
can influence the way
crabs feeds. They will
share with their table to
see different ideas.

The video will give

students a visual aid of
how a crab uses their
claws to feed.

By stimulating food and

claws, students will be
provided with a hands on
experience to enhance
their understanding of
how claws are used for
gathering food and
protection.

REFLECTION

BEYOND
Students will then finish
answering the questions
on the Claw Handout and
answer what claw was the
most successful for getting
food.

Additional examples and

moving into higher level
thinking

RATIONALE
They will reflect on their
activity and use their
higher level thinking
skills to compare the
prediction to the
outcome.
