For the case study, we can do in two ways:

1. We can do the case study of separate buildings and then combine.
2. Do a case study of city centre only like:
a. Connaught Place
b. Sarojani Nagar market
c. Fun Republic, Ahmedabad
'New City Spaces' by Jan Ghel & Lars Gemzoe, published by The Danish Press,
'Public Spaces Public Life' by the same Author.
'Life Between Buildings' by the same author.
Jan Ghel is an Architect and Senior Lecturer in Urban Design at the School of
Architecture, Royal Danish Acadamy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, and has
lectured, practiced and contributed to town planning at an international level.
There could be so many sources that you could choose from. There are many
historical precedents of market places, which are talked about in many books.
Right from the markets of Trajan in Rome, the caravenserais of Samarkand to the
present day old city markets of Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad etc. Some
interesting examples of modern day shopping malls would be the covered

shopping arcades of Milan, the raffles place and city link mall at Singapore, street
phenomenon like the Champs d'Elysee in Paris. At the same time there exist
smaller but more 'vibrant' shopping and market areas like the saturday/flea
markets at Berlin or Zurich, and many such places in India as well. Also worth
looking at is the street restaurant and eating example like the posh M.G. Road in
Bangalore or Piazza San Marco in Venice. Of course, in India the whole idea of
small shops and shopping in the streets can be found in most cities that have an
old city center.
