Donotturnthecrankshaftorthecamshaftwhilethecamshaftgearis
removed.Ifthefrontgeargroupisnotcorrectlytimedduring
installation,interferencecanoccurbetweenthepistonsandthevalves,
resultingindamagetotheengine.

1. Aligntheholeinthebackofcamshaftgear(1)withthedowelintheadapter.Installcamshaft
gear(1).
Note:Camshafttimingiscritical.Thetimingmarkonthecamshaftgearmustbealignedwith
thetimingmarkonthefrontcoverwhentheNo.1pistonisatthetopcenterofthecompression
stroke.RefertoTestingandAdjusting,"GearGroup(Front)Time".
2. Verifythatthetimingmarkoncamshaftgear(1)isalignedwithTimingMark(X)onfront
housing(3).
Note:Ifthetimingmarksarenotaligned,removecamshaftgear(1)androtatethecamshaft
untilthetimingmarksarealigned.

shouldbe0.35560.254mm(0.0140.010inch).RefertoTestingandAdjusting,"Gear
