LABORATORY SESSIONS:

OBJECTIVES
General Objectives:
To define medically-important mycotic diseases
with emphasis on disease epidemiology, etiology,
pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis and treatment.

Specific Objectives:
At the end of the course, the participant should
be able to:
1. Identify the most common etiologic agents of
superficial, cutaneous, subcutaneous, systemic and
opportunistic mycoses.
2. Differentiate the clinical manifestations of the
mycotic infections discussed.
3. Describe the colonial and microscopic
morphology of common fungal agents.
4. Discuss the mechanism of action of common
drugs used to treat fungal infections.
5. Perform proper methods of specimen collection
and processing for direct examination, isolation and
identification of fungal agents.
6. Interpret laboratory findings.

The course consists of lectures and laboratory


sessions (Mon to Fri 8:00 am- 5:00 pm).
