According to the most recent Collection Analysis by Mackin Educational

Resources, our collection has an average date of publication of 1995, or 21 years.
Since the Miller Jordan Middle School Library hasnt had a librarian in over a year and a
half and the previous librarians accepted other opportunities prior to the school year
ending, the library collection has not been inventoried in about ten years. Needless to
say, the library collection is not current and there are many books in the library
collection that are no longer relevant. Once the inventory is completed, then the next
step will be to weed out printed material that is not up to date and only printed material

that is current and relevant in the collection will remain. My first step in getting the
library collection up to date and maintaining relevant printed material is to inventory all
of the printed materials in the shelves. The following is the schedule for taking inventory
of the printed material in the shelves in order to complete the actual inventory in a timely
manner:

Even though the inventory was completed on November 28th, I still had about
four book carts full of books that I had to go back and catalog again due to that they
were catalogued incorrectly. For example, I would scan a book and it would scan as an
iPad 2 or it would scan that it wasnt part of the inventory. Some of the books that I had
two copies would scan as already seen because it had the same barcode. So my next

task is to look at each book and find out why it isnt scanning properly. This process will
probably take a long while. Once I have inventoried the books again, then I will proceed
to weeding. I will weed out printed material that is no longer current and/or relevant.
Weeding will probably take me well into the spring semester. Regardless of how long it
will take me to complete, it needs to get done. Our library collection has been neglected
for many years and it is time that someone took the time to update the library collection
for the sake of the MJMS community. The library collection needs to be made current
and relevant to in order for the campus to meet the needs of the students, teachers, and
community.
