I will be watching
how students sit on
the carpet, and
reward the students
who are behaving by
allowing them to
participate in my
lesson. As students
are working on the
patch they will need
to be at their desks
and on task.
As a class we will
discuss the activities
we do together and
what makes our
class special.

ory Set

Smart board/ Prezi,

20 white square,
construction paper
squares, and a
poster board

I will dress up as a
nurse and talk about
the differences
between a nurse and
a teacher.

We are looking at
this story because
we are all different
from each other, but
I also want you to be
like the characters
and see the good
things in other
people and in
yourself.

Today we will be
talking about
different jobs,
because each of us
have different
abilities and one day
everyone gets the
opportunity to work
somewhere and
affect the community.

Input: On the
carpet we will talk
about community
and use a quilt to
show what a
community is
Output: Students
will create a quilt
patch which they
will add to our class
community quilt.

Input: Read aloud,

and discussion/ list
of the story on the
smart board

Students will rotate

between each station
I will be assisting
students and asking
questions. Once we
finish the stations
students will process
what they learn and
draw a picture of
them in a profession.

I will hang the quilt

in the classroom so
that students can
see the diversity
and unity in the
classroom.

Boys and Girls I

loved seeing all of
your cats. Who can
tell the class what a
character is? Who
else can tell us a
fact about the
characters from our
book Square Cat? I

Our class is an
example of a
community, so it is
important to
understand what
role each person
plays in a
community.

doctor, chef,
scientist, and actor.
Worksheet
As students rotate in
each station they
need to stay on task
and sort items. I will
gain students
attention by turning
off the lights and
having them put their
hands up.

My personal story of
feeling different and
what I learnedwhich allows
students to think of
their experiences.

Purpose

Lesson

After the story is

read, students are
able to verbalize
that it is okay to be
different, and share
points from the

students are able to
sort the items which
are related to career
from the random

-After working at the
learning center,
students can identify
one career and list
details about that
career.

Output: Students
create their own cat
and talk in groups

I will walk around and

interact with each
student to have them
show me the tools
they included in the
profession.

DAY #3 Social

demonstrate that
they understand the

items that represent
winter and fall, Prezi,
worksheet

Student notebooks

provide examples of
what they learned
throughout the week in
their writing notebooks

The students who are

in a quiet
position/behaving will
be called on to help
sort the items. I will
praise students who
are model examples.

I will lay out my items

on the carpet and call
on students to help
sort them out- at the
end they will discover
one bag symbolizes
winter and the other
symbolizes fall.
Each different season
comes with change,
as winter begins in
Indianan it is
important to be ready
and know what to
expect.

Input: We will have

discussion of what
students think of
when they hear
winter how the tools
change between
winter and fall. I will
show a prezi to give
examples

they color the winter
clothes
Winter is starting. It

different clothing and
ways to have fun, so
it is important to be
prepared for the

Over the past unit we

have seen a variety
of differences that
impact a community.
We talked about the
unique qualities in
our class community
with a quilt. We
learned to be proud
of our abilities with
the story of Eula the
square cat. We then
talked about how
each job is different
and uses unique
tools. Then yesterday
we talked about how
all of the seasons
change. The seasons
also impact our
community and we
have to adapt to the
changes. As we go
