This is our second catalog dedicated exclusively to two of

the most exciting and rapidly growing parts of our publishing
program, Paper + Goods, our line of stationery and gift
products, and our childrens books. Whats particularly
compelling about these two lists is how they bring Princeton
Architectural Presss sensibility, a unique combination of
discovery, wonder, design savvy, braininess, and value in new
and unexpected ways. In Childrens, youll find Mud Book,
a cookbook with recipes for making mud pies and other
delicacies, written by legendary avant-garde composer John
Cage; whod have guessed? A Walk in the Forest is a sparsely
beautiful invitation to young readers to see the forest as a place
of contemplation as much as observation. Our Paper + Goods
products are certain to surprise you: a Mail Box filled with
envelopes of unique sizes, shapes, and patterns will brighten
your day every time you use one to send something as mundane
as a payment, or to give a gift to a loved one. Sunprint introduces
us to the stunning cyano-prints of the worlds first female
photographer, botanist Anna Atkins. Stampville inspires the
architect and artist in everyone with its collection of rubber
stamps of architectural elements to be combined to create
buildings and cityscapes. Every product in this catalog brings
a smile to my face, and Im sure they will to yours, too.

Mud Book
How to Make Pies and Cakes
John Cage and Lois Long

In the mid-1950s, legendary avant-garde composer John Cage and artist Lois Long
created a truly marvelous object. Part artists book, part cookbook, and part childrens
book, Mud Book is a spirited, if not satirical, take on almost every childs first attempt
at cooking and making. Through the humble mud pieadd dirt and water!Cage
and Long encourage children to explore their imagination and to get their hands dirty,
and they offer this warning: Mud pies are to make and look at, not to eat.
A unique hybrid of art book, unconventional cookbook, and inspiration for young
makers, this new edition of Mud Book will delight children and parents alike, and
makes a charming gift for all ages.
John Cage (191292) was a pioneering American composer, music theorist, artist, and
writer. Also a mycologista mushroom expertCage knew a thing or two about dirt.
Lois Long (19182005) was a textile designer and artist.

A Walk in the Forest

Maria Dek

A Walk in the Forest is a delightful invitation to discover the woods as a place

for both imaginative play and contemplation: collect pinecones, feathers,
or stones; follow the tracks of a deer; or listen to the chirping of birds and the
whisper of trees. Build a shelter and play hide and seek. Pretend the woods
are a jungle, or shout out loud to stir up the birds! The forest comes alive
in all its mysterious glory in Maria Deks charming watercolor images and
poetic text.
Maria Dek is a freelance illustrator based in Gda nsk,

Poland. She holds

degrees from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the University of
the Arts London.

Drawing in Space
Harriet Russell

Do you know that the universe is expanding even as you read this?
That stargazing is really looking back in time millions of years, and that
sound cannot travel in space, so you can be as noisy as you like? With witty
pen-and-ink illustrations, mazes, puzzles, and games, this activity book
engages readers of all ages on every page with fun facts about the amazing
realm beyond Earths atmosphere. Readers learn to calculate their age
in Jupiter years, draw their own solar systems, and navigate out of
a black-hole maze, while discovering more about planets, stars, comets,
asteroids, and other celestial objects.
Harriet Russell lives in London, England, and is the author/illustrator
of Drawing in the Sea and Envelopes: A Puzzling Journey through the
Royal Mail.

9/29/16 4:23 PM

Hello and welcome to Drawing in Space . What is space?

If you travel beyond our planet, Earth, you will eventually reach outer space. Our universe contains
many objects, such as planets, moons, stars, solar systems, and galaxies. A solar system is a group
of planets revolving around a star. Our solar system is centered around the sun, which is a huge
star, and it is part of a larger galaxy called the Milky Way. In between all these different objects
are huge, empty gaps known as space.

Rock and Gas

There are eight planets altogether:
four are rocky and four are gaseous.

Gaseous planets

Mercury

Venus

Earth

Mars
Asteroid belt

Jupiter

Saturn

Uranus

Neptune

Beyond these are the

dwarf planets Pluto, Haumea,
Makemake, and Eris.
Pluto used to be classed as
a planet but is now considered
a dwarf planet.

Sun

OK, thats enough of that.

Lets draw!

Earth is the only planet with known life.

Most of its surface is covered in water, and
oxygen is plentiful. Both water and oxygen are
essential for living things.

The earth is moving all the time, although we

cannot feel it. Everything on Earth is held
down by a force called gravity. If there were
no gravity, everything would float away!

Oxygen

Although it is comfortable for us to

live on its surface, inside, Earth
has an extremely hot core.

Apple core

Imagine if there were no gravity.

Draw some things floating away!

Gravity also keeps Earth in its place on its

journey around the sun. Without gravity,
Earth would float away like a huge balloon.

Because there is no
gravity in space, astronauts
inside a spaceship can float.
Draw some astronauts
floating inside the
spaceship.

Astronauts have to wear special suits equipped

with oxygen packs that protect them in space
and allow them to breathe.

Birds of the World

My Nature Sticker Activity Book
Olivia Cosneau

With their colorful feathers, beautiful songs, power of flight, and dinosaur ancestry,
birds are truly astonishing creatures. But did you know that the huge variety of
known species includes daring acrobats, inconsiderate noisemakers, ruthless hunters,
wonderful swimmers, and blazing runners? Or that the tiniest bird in the world
measures just two inches long?
Beautifully illustrated by Olivia Cosneau, Birds of the World introduces aspiring
ornithologists to these and other fun facts through a range of coloring activities,
removable stickers, and a short quiz. In the process, children learn about the rich
variety of birds living in our world, including nightingales, swallows, hummingbirds,
pelicans, penguins, parrots, toucans, and flamingos, among others.
Olivia Cosneau lives in Nantes, France, and has illustrated several childrens
books. She obtained her arts degree at the University of Nantes.

In the Vegetable Garden

My Nature Sticker Activity Book
Olivia Cosneau

Whats more fun or magical than digging in the dirt, planting and watering seeds,
discovering the first seedlings of the season, and finally eating your own fruits
and vegetables?
Lovingly illustrated by Olivia Cosneau, this book is a colorful introduction to
the magical world of the garden, including a range of fun activities, removable
stickers, and a quiz. In the process, fledgling gardeners ages five and up learn about
the different types of vegetables and fruits they can grow, how to care for them,
what tools they need, and many other interesting facts.

A rainbow is most often viewed as a circular arc in the

sky. Those who are fortunate enough to have seen a
rainbow from an airplane in the sky may know that a
rainbow can actually be a complete circle. Observers
on the ground only view the top half of the circle since
the bottom half of the circular arc is prevented by the
presence of the ground (and the rather obvious fact that
suspended water droplets aren't present below ground).
The circle (or half-circle) results because there are a
collection of suspended droplets in the atmosphere that
are capable concentrating the dispersed light at angles of
deviation of 40-42 degrees relative to the original path of
light from the sun. These droplets actually form a circular
arc, with each droplet within the arc dispersing light and
reflecting it back towards the observer. Every droplet
within the arc is refracting and dispersing the entire
visible light spectrum (ROYGBIV).

T he first thing we must make

clear to ourselves is that play
is so elementary a function
of human life that culture
is inconceivable without it.
Hans-George Gadamer

Redstone Diary 2018

The Play Diary
Play is, by definition, disinterested activity. It crucially lacks utility. It takes place in
a time out of time. Play is, nevertheless, governed by powerfully purposive impulses:
we act within the rules of engagement and learn what it is to live with ourselves
and with others. Play is essential to human being. We learn to play; we play to learn.
Redstones Play Diary is itself playful. It plays with the idea of play every day of
the year. Expect the unexpected.
Artists and writers at play include Bruno Munari, Paul Klee, David Shrigley,
Glen Baxter, Maurizio Cattelan, Olga Rozanova, Harry Smith, Lydia Davis,
e e cummings, Charles Baudelaire, and Saul Steinberg.

Psychobook

PSYCHOBOOK will inform, entertain, and amaze you. A spectacular revelation of a world long hidden

from popular view, it brings to light a fascinating array of psychological tests, questionnaires, and games,

Games, Tests, Questionnaires, Histories

along with a glimpse into their histories.

Psychobook presents famous tests, such as the Rorschach inkblot test and the Thematic Apperception

Test, in versions that beguile the eye, intrigue the mind, and stretch the imagination. Newly invented

Julian Rothenstein, editor

Introduction by Lionel Shriver

questionnaires subvert the assumptions of professionals. Imaginative, ironic, and sometimes disconcerting,
they include thought-provoking keys to interpretation.

Visually stunning, Psychobook is sure to engage, surprise, and delight all who open its pages.

Edited by Julian Rothenstein, publisher of Redstone Press, Psychobook includes an introduction by

Lionel Shriver, journalist and bestselling author of We Need to Talk About Kevin; an insightful history by

Oisn Wall, curator at the Science Museum in London; and illuminating commentary by the art critic,
