Mechanical Properties of Component Fabricated with Open-Source 3D Printer

Under Realistic Environmental Conditions
Purpose: Investigate the relationship between deposition pattern orientation and layer
height on tensile strength, strain at tensile strength, modulus
Methods: Specimen follows ASTM D638 standard; 10 specimens for each
combination; Cura softeare for reading Gcodes; Specimens are printed at 100% filled;
Mechanical Testing: Instron with 4468KN load;
Materials: ABS and PLA
Parameters:
Oreentation: +90/0 ; 45/-45 Layer height: 0.2mm, 0.3mm, 0.4mm
2. An Approach for Mechanical Property Optimisation for Fused Deposition
Modeling with polylactic acid via design of experiment
Purpose: influences of several production variables on the mechanical properties of
specimens manufactured using fused deposition modeling (FDM) with polylactic acid
(PLA) as a media and relate the practical and experimental implications of these as
related to stiffness, strength, ductility and generalized loading
Methods: Specimen follows ASTM E8/D638 & ASTM E8/D638, Mechanical
Testing: Instron with 1KN load; 1.524mm/min, SEM to look at the fracture parts
Materials: ABS and PLA
Parameters: Temperature, T; print speed, s; infill direction; relative
density (or infill percent); and layer thickness,

3. Mechanical properties of dense polylactic acid structures fabricated by 3D

printing

Purpose: mechanical properties of 3D-printed PLLA parts fabricated at low and high
molecular weight PLA powders with chloroform used as a binder. Degradation study
is included as well.
Methods: Specimen follows ASTM D638-91 standard; speciem at printed at different
speeds; Mechanical Testing: Instron with 4468KN load;
Materials: PLA powder using liquid nitrogen to grind, chloroform
Parameters:

4. Histological evaluation of osteogenesis of 3D-printed

poly-lactic-co-glycolic acid(PLGA) scaffolds in a rabbit model
Purpose: the efficacy of bone regeneration within the
implanted scaffolds was evaluated at 4, 12 and 24 weeks postsurgery through histological analysis
Methods: Cylindrical scaffold with 6mm height, 6mm diameter, 50% porosity
Materials: PLA 8218, ethanol, acetone, water as binding agent
