discussingcharactertraitsandactions.Afterreadingthestorytheteacherwillfacilitatea
discussionwiththeclass,andprovideanexampleofacharactertraitwebonachart.
Theteacherwillprovideonecharactertrait,andgiveanexamplefromthestoryto
supportthatidea.Studentswillbepairedwithapartner,anddirectedtousethewebsite
"Popplet"tocreatecharacterwebchartsonthecomputer.Studentswilllistcharacter
traitsof"Swimmy"ontheirwebs.Studentswillthenchoose1traitfromtheirweb,and
writeasentenceusingevidencefromthetexttosupporthowSwimmydemonstratedthat
trait.Webswillbeprintedout,andstudentswilldrawanillustrationtomatchthe
examplestheycreatedtosharewiththeclass.
ASSESSMENT
Studentswillaccuratelycompleteacharactertraitweb,andconstructtheirsupporting
sentence(s)withanillustration.Workwillbesharedduringagroupdiscussion.
INDEPENDENTPRACTICE
Followingthelesson,studentswillchooseoneanimalthatSwimmymeetsonhisjourney
throughthesea,andresearchthecreatureforhomework.Studentswillchoosetoresearch
amedusajellyfish,alobster,ananemone,ORanelectriceelandwrite3factsaboutthe
organism.Studentswilldrawanillustrationoftheorganismtheychose.
