Voltage Terminis : These a r e used for t h e
Voltage connections. T h e common t e r m i n a l i s

marked with the respective rated voltages.
Current Terminis : One of the terminis i s

terminis are marked w i t h the respective rated

Scale : The scale is virtually linear and has 120
equi-spaced divisions.
Mirror : This is provided to elimnate parallax
errors i n reading the meter indication. Read the
indication valu with your eye i n such a position
that the pointer and its reflection i n the Mirror
overlap.
Knife-edge Pointer:
Zero Adjust S c r e w : This screw is used to zero
the p o i n t e r . H o w e v e r , i f t h e p o i n t e r s h i f t i s
attributable to a bent pointer, the screw must not
be used to zero the deflection because it may cause
reading errors.

Table of Range Multiplier Constants : The table

is located on the side of the instrument case, and
the actual power valu is obtained by multplying
the constant listed in the table by the indication
valu on the scale.
Refer to.the operational procedure for more
detailed information.

OPERATION
3-1. Preparations
(1) Place the instrument on a fairly level surface.
(2) Check that the instrument pointer i s at the
zero(O) position on the scale. I f not, turn the zeroadjust screw (fefer to figure 2-1) on the front panel
using the correct screw-driver, until the pointer is
zeroed.
(3) Make sure the power source is "Off" before
m a k i n g a n y c o n n e c t i o n to t h e c i r c u i t to be
measured.
(4) Measure the approximate circuit
curent and voltage beforenand, set
the i n s t r u m e n t to a n appropriate
range before connecting i t to the
circuit whose power consumption is
to be measured.

A s shown i n figure 3 - 1 , connect the voltage

terminal() to t h e load side a n d complete the
voltage connection through the current
c i r c u i t ( c o n n e c t t h e voltage terminal() to the
current terminal A).
If the pointer deflects reversely, interchange the
two voltage terminal connections.

(5) Three phase A C power Measurement (by two

sets of wattmeters).
Three phases power measurement is made by
connecting two sets of single phase wattmeters as
shown i n figure 3-7. The power is indicated by the
a l g e b r a i c a l S u m of t h e i n d i c a t i o n s of t h e two
wattmeters.
When t h e power f a c t o r of t h e c i r c u i t to be
measured is greater than 50%, both wattmeters
connected as shown i n figure 3-7 indicate "positive"
vales, so the measured three phase power factor of
the circuit to be measured is less than 50%, on one
of the two wattmeters the pointer will deflect off
scale reversely.

In this case, reverse the voltage connection of the

meter whose pointer deflects reversely, and the
meter will indicate a "positive" valu on the scale.
Subtract this valu from the positive valu on the
other meter.
(6) Both voltage and current exceeding the rated
vales in three phase power measurement.
Connect as shown i n figure 3-8. The measured
three phase -power is the algebraical addition of
each wattmeters (indicator reading x multiplying
constant) x PT Ratio x CT Ratio.
In Figure 3-8, L, I , V, v are terminal symbols and
denote each polarity.

3-3. Range Selection

(2) Be sure no to open the secondary circuit of a

current transformer CT when changing the
measuring ranges. I f the current transformer is
provided with a secondary winding shorting switch,
cise the winding with the switch first, and then
change the measuring range. I f such a switch is not
provided, change the range after switching off the
power source ; or connect to the new c u r r e n t
terminal before removing the connection to the od
one.

(1) For power measurement, select a voltage range

which i s likely to be cise to the voltage of the
c i r c u i t to be m e a s u r e d . I f the load c u r r e n t i s
unknown, first select the largest current terminal
for connection, and turn power switch ON.
Both voltage and current ranges are changed by
selecting terminis. The ratio of the voltage ranges
is 2. The ratio of the current ranges is 5.
