My goal as a teacher is to prepare students to succeed in their futures. My vision for a
science curriculum includes allowing students to take control of their learning experiences and challenging students to increase their academic potential. Considering the importance of test taking for their futures, I believe that I have a responsibility to prepare my students to effectively take tests. I will most definitely assign projects and reports to shape and assess student learning, but I also will get my students comfortable with test taking. Thus, I will utilize nearly all types of assessments on a regular basis. The main types of summative assessments that I will use will be tests, projects, and written/ oral reports. All three of the main types of assessments that I will use will be graded approximately with the same weight. I plan on implementing many other types of assignments that will allow students to build a stronger understanding of the topics, but those assignments will not be graded as heavily. I want my students to develop strategies and techniques for learning new material. To scaffold this process, many of the assignments that I will give will contribute to their learning process, and the strategies will be applicable for future classes that they will take. These assignments will not be weighted heavily, but I will grade them in order to strongly encourage students to complete them.
