EIGHT WEEK SCHEDULE

WEEK 1
AUGUST 15-19
Objective (s):
Understand and use a variety of technologies to address a range of audiences.
Write for an audience of their peers who will read their materials online.
Provide and receive feedback with their peers.
Assignment/Assessment: Review the Introduction Folder. Introduce yourself to
your classmates in a post to the discussion board. What do you like to do in your
free time? Do you enjoy reading? Do you enjoy writing? What is your classification?
Tell us a little about yourself. Respond to three of your classmates. Afterwards, use
Google Docs to type and share an introduction to me.
Notes: Discussion Board #1: Introduction due Wednesday, August 17 by 11:59pm.
Respond to three others by Friday, August 19 by 11:59pm. Share your introduction
using Google Docs with me by Saturday, August 20 by 11:59.

WEEK 2
AUGUST 22-27
Objective (s):
Understand the narrative genre.
Write for an audience of their peers who will read their materials online.
Provide and receive feedback with their peers.
Assignment/Assessment: Read the section on narrative genre here Norton Guide
to Literacy Narrative and follow the link to watch Cynthia Selfes video on what is a
Literacy Narrative. Post to the discussion board one story that describes an
important literary experience. Respond to three other classmates post by Friday,
August 27 by 11:59pm.
Notes: Discussion Board #2: Literacy Experience due by Wednesday, August 24 by
11:59pm.

WEEK 3
AUGUST 29- SEPTEMBER 2
Objective (s):
Understand the narrative genre.
Write for an audience of their peers who will read their materials online.
Provide and receive feedback with their peers.
Understand and use a variety of technologies to address a range of audiences.
Assignment/Assessment: Following last weeks discussion, this week you will
post a blog through Blackboard discussing how your literacy experiences led you to
develop rules about writing. After you post your blog, read and respond to three
other classmate blogs.

Notes: Blog Post #1: Rules about Writing initial blog post due Wednesday, August
31 by 11:59pm. Respond to three other classmates by Friday, September 2 by
11:59pm.
WEEK 4
SEPTEMBER 5-9
Objective (s):
Understand the narrative genre.
Use composing and reading for inquiry, learning, critical thinking, and
communicating in various rhetorical contexts.
Develop a writing project through multiple drafts.
Assignment/Assessment: A short quiz on the literacy narrative will be open
Monday, September 5. 11:59pm. Once you have completed the quiz, start
reviewing the assignment sheet for your first essay. If you have any questions, post
them in the Discussion Board titled Essay #1 Questions.
Notes: The quiz is due September 6 at 11:59pm. Your first essay draft is due
Monday, September 12 by 11:59 pm in the Discussion Board titled Essay #1
Drafts.

WEEK 5
SEPTEMBER 12-16
Objective:
Develop a writing project through multiple drafts
Use composing processes and tools as a means to discover and reconsider ideas
Experience the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes
Learn to give and to act on productive feedback to works in progress
Assignment: Read and provide informative feedback and comments on three of
your peers essay drafts. Start by answering the following questions: What did you
enjoy about the essay? What can he/she work on to improve the essay? Your
comments and responses are due Wednesday, September 14 by 11:59pm.
Notes: Edit your essay drafts and submit a final version by Saturday, September 17
by 11:59pm.

WEEK 6
SEPTEMBER 19-23
Objective:
Use composing processes and tools as a means to discover and reconsider ideas
Experience the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes.
Assignment: The next three weeks focus is on social media to prepare you for your
next essay. The Oxford Dictionary defines social media as websites and applications
that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.
Think about some of the ways you use social media and see social media being

used and write your response in a Blackboard student blog. Respond to two other of
your peers blogs.
Notes: Your initial blog post- Blog Post #2: Social Media is due Wednesday,
September 21 by 11:59pm. Respond to two others by Thursday, September 22 by
11:59pm.
WEEK 7
SEPTEMBER 26-30
Objective (s):
Learn and use key rhetorical concepts through analyzing and composing a variety of
texts
Use composing and reading for inquiry, learning, critical thinking, and
communicating in various rhetorical contexts.
Understand and use a variety of technologies to address a range of audiences.
Assignment/Assessment: Read what Purdue has on the expository essay here
Purdue OWL and open the link to watch the video on the Expository Essay by
Wednesday, September 28 by 11:59pm. After completing both actions, take the quiz
title Expository Essay Quiz.
Write a short blog, using myself as your primary audience, on how comfortable or
uncomfortable you are when writing expository essays. Be sure to answer the
following in your blog: Have you ever written an expository essay? How long was
the essay in length of words or pages? What was the essay topic?
Notes: Quiz due Thursday, September 29 at 11:59pm. Blog Post #3: Expository
Essay is due Friday, September 30 by 11:59pm.

WEEK 8
OCTOBER 3-7
Objective (s):
Learn and use key rhetorical concepts through analyzing and composing a variety of
texts.
Write for an audience of your peers who will read your materials online.
Learn to give and to act on productive feedback to works in progress.
Develop a writing project through multiple drafts.
Assignment/Assessment:
The expository essay is an essay that requires students to explore an idea,
investigate or research to find evidence on that idea and then present the idea or
an argument concerning the idea in a clear and concise manner. Review Blog Post
#2. In a 1000 word essay you will describe some of the pros and cons of the
creation of social media. Your first essay draft is due in Blackboard October 7 by
11:59pm.
Notes: Post your essay draft to the Discussion Board titled Essay #1 Drafts by
October 7 at 11;59pm.
