Course Description
This course is designed for those students who want to further develop sewing skills through
more difficult projects. Students will interpret guide sheet language and complete projects with a
high level of proficiency.
Priority Standards:
1. Demonstrate advanced apparel and textile construction skills.
2. Demonstrate general operational procedures for sewing equipment.
3. Evaluate the components for garment quality and design.
Supporting Standards:
1. Outline and summarize the components of fabric and their purpose.
2. Examine details of common garment silhouettes.
3. Choose appropriate construction terms as needed.
4. Demonstrate advanced construction techniques.
5. Interpret pattern, envelope, and guide sheet.
6. Identify ways to restyle or repurpose garments.
7. Evaluate garments for value, quality and fit.

Instructional Procedures & Support
-Students need to come to class ready to learn which includes: being in class on time, having
materials, meeting teacher expectations, and treating others with dignity and respect.
-Classes consist of individual projects, book work, and lecture/demonstration. State-of-the art
equipment is used to enhance learning (for example: electronic sewing machines, computerized
embroidery machines and sergers.)
-Literacy and numeracy strategies are reinforced through hands-on, real life applications of math,
science, and reading.
-Class time is allocated for completion of projects. Incomplete assignments may be made up
before or after school within a reasonable period of time. All sewing projects must be completed
in the classroom.
-Students who need additional support may make arrangements with the teacher.
Classroom Management Procedures
Attendance: Daily attendance and participation is important! Class discussion, demonstrations,
and presentations are an integral part of the class and the interchange that takes place is difficult
to duplicate.
Individual classroom teachers rules will be followed
Lab rules
Students are responsible for the care and use of their assigned machine. Intentional damage to
equipment will be charged to the student.
Everyone shares in cleanup at the end of the class.
All school equipment must be returned at the end of lab.
Assessment Plan
Multiple measures of assessment: daily participation points, written assignments, projects,
quizzes, and tests.
