Skeletal System Lab Report

In this Lab Report, the information that is covered is bone matrix, pressure and
force, and homeostasis imbalance about osteoporosis. In the Matrix Lab, the class
looked through the microscope to view the Bone matrix, a connective tissue. As you can
see in Figure 1, the labels are shown in the Bone Matrix, that is central canal, matrix,
lacuna, osteon, osteocytes, and canaliculi. The class then did a lab that covered the
chicken bone. There were three different kind of bones, one was soaked in vinegar,
second bone was from a baked chicken, and the third was just from fresh chicken.
These bones were to show if there was collagen matrix, which means where the bone is
strong and tendons. The class also had to find the mineral salts on the bones, which is
substance that is extracted. To find out which bones had collagen matrix and mineral
salts, you can see on Table 1, you will also see the diseases/disorder that the bones
occur.
In order to get the data for pressure and force, the class had did a lab that
consisted their barefoot dumped in a bucket of water and then pressed their foot against
a graphed paper on a flat surface then traced the print that was shown. Later the class
would step on the force plate and do different activity. They collected data from doing
activities the data is different than others because one their foot is different size and
some are probably flat-footed or not. In Table 2 you will see the activity and the data
that was collected. But doing different activities some people use more force, for
example like jumping or walking. In Figure 2, the bar graphs is to show the differences
between force and pressure, the data for the graph is used from Table 2.In Figure 3 you
can see the graph about the force used in walking from a force plate. As you can see
that the heels was the first force shown and probably a little wiggling while walking and
towards the end you will see the force of the toes.
The infographic is showing different information about osteoporosis. It shows the
bone physiology and the bone remodeling cycle. In Table 1 you can see which bone will
have a disease of osteoporosis or osteopenia. You can tell the difference between a
normal bone and the bone that has osteoporosis. There are risk factors listed that can
be controllable and some uncontrollable. Also in Figure 4 there are sources about bone
health and the importance of taking vitamin D during the disease. There are exercises
that can help prevent osteoporosis. The figure 4 shows how the menopause affects a
womans hormonal levels. There are drugs that are listed to help prevent/ treat the
disease of osteoporosis.

connective tissue view from under the microscope that is labeled central canal, matrix,
canaliculi, osteocytes, lacuna, and osteon.

and vinegar soaked bone.
