Social Inequality
Imagine a world where everyone is seen equal and not discriminated by the color, gender,
or personal status. A world where an African America person is not being watch when they shop
because someone may thing that they about to steal something. A world where women are seen
strong as men and not weak. A world where the poorest people are able to enjoy like as if they
were rich. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people are put a disadvantaged due to their
life circumstances which is called social inequality. Social inequality can be seen in many ways
such as race, gender, poverty. This is a problem that keeps growing but there is not much being
done to find ways to solve this outgoing problem in the world. An example of social inequality is
in the short story called, The Friday Everything Change by Anne hart. In the short, two
students usually male were pick to bring a water bucket from the train station to the class. If you
were pick for this job, there was a reward which was that does student were able to leave class
for half an hour. Eventually, that led to question one the female students to ask why were only
boys pick and not girls. As result of that all the girls were picked on and banned from playing
softball. That shows the inequality between girl and boys in this story. Although, at the end two
girls were picked to go get the water and get their reward which was to leave a half an hour from
class. That shows that challenging role expectations takes courage and most of the time result in
change that helps everyone. Overall, social inequality is a major problem in society due to race,

Reyes 2
gender, poverty and other life circumstances and something has to be done in other to change this
issue.
To begin with, race is on of the biggest problems that creates social inequality. People are
quickly to judge others because of their color skin or their background. People are not just being
judged by the way they look but they are also being treated unfairly in many ways. One group in
partially that has history of racial inequality is the African American community. Is a community
that thought out history has been seen differently because of their color skin. It also affects
groups such as Native American, Latin American, Arbs, Muslims, Asians, and others
(something). All this groups are affected in a daily basis and are been treated in way that is
unhuman. There is not a specify reason why are being treat in such a way but mostly is just as act
of hate towards this people. In addition, all this groups are not just being treated differently but
also being label. For example, Muslims are being labeled as terrorist, Latin Americans are being
labeled as illegal immigrants, and African Americans are being labeled as gang members
(Racial Profiling). These labels are put in this people and for the time that effects their life. For
example, Latin American people are hardworking people like everyone else but just because they
are label as Illegal Immigrants people think that they do bad things when in reality they just work
hard to help support their families. The same goes for African American people where they
constantly been accused of been gang member when in reality there just normal people like
everyone else. In the other hand, there is people that do bad things but that should not be the
reason why everyone else is seen differently because of other mistakes. Overall, racial inequality
is a big part of social inequality and there are many solutions to solve this outgoing problem of
race.

In order for racial inequality to stop in the world and this society, many things have to be
accomplish in order to make a change. Although, they are many laws put in place to stop racial
inequality. It seems that it continues to be problem regardless and the only very possibly way to
stop all the hate is to understand that everyone is equal regardless of their color or the way they
dress. Everyone has to understand that everyone is unique in his or her own way and not what
society labels him or her. All the labels and hate towards people come from the past, which
people believe when in reality that was the past. Society has changed thought-out history and it
continue to change for the better of everyone. That is why people need to change the way they
see everyone and need to start seeing the reality that not every s single African American is a
gang member or that all Latin American are illegal. In conclusion, that is one the ways that racial
inequality will change to teach people that everyone deserves a chance to show that they are not
what society has label them. Racial inequality is the only problem that contributes to social
inequality but they is also gender inequality that is another problem in the world.
Secondly, social inequality is not just about race inequality but is also about gender
inequality. Gender inequality is the different factors that put males in an advantage over a woman
just because of fact males are stronger. In society, women are represent as weak and not capable
of doing things that men can. Although, in todays society womens are well represented with
respect. In history, it was never easy because they have no rights that they struggle to get their
voice across. It was a hard and long fight that womens give in order to have rights. Even, before
that women were not treat with respect or taken serious as their only job was to stay home and
server the family. All that change when they finally gain rights. It changes but in a way, they
were still not taken serious or treated fairly. As men always seen to always have an advantage
over women in jobs and everything else. Furthermore, in todays society womens play a big role

Reyes 4
in everything and continue to play role important events. For example, Hilary Clinton running
for president represent how far womens have come in the world. Although, women have fought
long fight to get where they are now. In some way, they are still being treated unfairly in some
ways. For example, Women were overrepresented in several industries and underrepresented in
others. For example, in 2010, women represented 79 percent of the health and social services
workforce and 68.6 percent of the education services workforce. However, women represented
only 43.2 percent of the professional, scientific and technical services sector and 8.9 percent of
the construction sector (Gender Inequality and Women in the US Labor Force). Even with the
right education, women in some cases are still being paid less then man. Is unfair but gender
inequality is it still a problem in society.
Gender inequality continues to be a problem between women and men. The 19th
amendment was the solution for women to be represent the way they should but there not
completed equal to men still. In a job, if a woman has the education and the requirement then
they should be paid what they are deserve. If women are able to do what men do, then there
should not be discrimination towards. If a woman is capable of anything then there is no reason
for gender inequality. Women work hard as men do and for that reason, they should be gender
inequality. In other word, women and men should be seem the same way in any situation or
circumstance. In conclusion, gender inequality should not be a social inequality problem because
women have proven capable of doing anything.
Lastly, another issue of social inequality is the rich vs the poor. There is saying that the
rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The current issue that the richer have bigger advantages
over the poor. For example, they live a better lifestyle such having a nice house, car, and
anything they want. While, 43 million Americans, more than 14 million of them children, are

Reyes 5
still officially classified as poor, and countless others up and down the income ladder remain
worried about their families financial security (Cohen). As this show how the poor struggle in a
daily basis to gain enough money to be able to support their family. Others disadvantages that the
poor have is when it comes to health. The rich are able to get the best medical doctor and care
when they are sick. While, the poor have to wait in long lines to be treated for medical
assistance. Another different between the rich and poor is education. The rich have it set already
knowing that they will go to the best school and gain the best education because they can afford
it. In the other hand, the poor have limited choice to what school they can attend. That is not
including that they have to work hard in a competitive road to gain a spot in the school they want
to attend. Overall, they are many more issue between the rich and poor but lifestyle, education,
and health are in the top of social inequality.
In addition, there is many solutions to stop the disadvantage between rich and poor. One
of the solution is the 13% solution that, According to an analysis by the Citizens for Tax Justice
(C.T.J.), Brown's 13/13 plan would translate into an effective tax rate of 26.2 percent on the
poorest quintile, with the revenuers' share sloping steadily downward as you travel up the income
scale until you reach the top 1 percent, who'd pay all of 13.5 percent. The culprit here is the VAT.
Poor and middle-income people spend almost every dollar they earn (and then some); rich people
do not. Consequently, the poorer you are, the heavier your tax (Henwood). This show that taxes
could be a different between the rich and the poor. Also meaning that if someone make less than
what is consider being financial stable. Then, they should pay less tax compared to does that
make more than what is consider being financial stable where they will pay at little more taxes.
In addition, there are many other solutions like Government programs such as Social Security,
the earned-income tax credit and food stamps -- have kept tens of millions from sinking into

Reyes 6
poverty year after year. But a main driver behind the impressive 1.2 percentage point decline in
the poverty rate, the largest annual drop since 1999, was that the economy finally hit a tipping
point after years of steady (Cohen). Programs like this help the poor but there still at lot more to
be done to create an equal society between rich and poor. The poor should not struggle as much
as they but enjoy life like a rich person. In conclusion, the inequality between rich and the poor
add as one the main problems of social inequality.
On the other hand, there is still a part of society that believe that social inequality is not a
problem. That racial, gender and income inequality is not a problem. That this entire problem
already has a solution and that there is no reason why to talk about these problems anymore.
Although, there is laws and many ways to deal with social inequality. It is still an outgoing
problem in society and there is prove that shows that social inequality is an everyday problem for
society. In addition, for the part of society that thinks social inequality is not an issue is because
they do see the struggles that people are going thought in an everyday life. Is either because they
live an easy life or are ignorant people that only look out for themselves.
In conclusion, social inequality is out going problem that involves race, gender, and
inequalities between the poor and the rich. As for race inequality and discrimination, everyone
has to learn that everyone is equal regardless of color or background. At the same time, whether
someone is a female or a male that does not that mean one is stronger than the other. If both male
and female show that they could do anything then gender inequality should be a problem of the
past. In addition, money should not give an immediately advantage over everyone else. As in
short, story, The Friday Everything Changed. It proved that the girls were capable of bringing
the water as well not just the boys. In order to fix all this issues of social inequality everyone will
have to stand up and start making a difference in order to live in an equal society.
