Video games do not cause Violence
When kids and adults want to enjoy themselves, when they do not have to work, some
go to video games. Some people play violent video games. Some people say that it causes more
violence, but is that really true? No, that is not true. If we would say that video game cause
violence, then why are we not talking about sports as well? There is no hard data that says that
there is a correlation between the two. So why people lead to believe that video games causes
violence. What causes violence, what do video games do, and what are violent video games?
Video Games do not cause violence in our society.
Violent video games are the video games that show violence or have violent pictures that
show violence. These games are usually M rated in the gaming rating system. The rating system
was put into place so parents knew what they could be buying for their kid so they would not
give a mature game to a ten year old. Violent video games are in the T rated to M rated section of
video games. Some examples of violent video games are Call of Duty, Gears of war, Battlefield
and Grand Theft Auto.
Violence has been in our society for as long as civilization has been around. Some people
are either mentally ill and want to harm others or don't want to follow the rules that we all follow
to keep each other safe. We do not know what fully causes violence but in many studies show
that videogames do not cause violence. All most all young males play violent video games and

yet the majority are not committing crimes(Scutti 10). This makes a lot of sense because if
video games did cause violence then why is it that not every one or even a majority of the people
who play violent video are not doing things that are considered against the law? I play some
violent video games and I'm not out there committing crimes. When there is a shooting
somewhere and the shooter is young they think that video games led him to do what they did and
even some of the people that do the action also say that video games corrupted them into
devaluing life and what life should be.
There are many different kinds of video games: there are violent ones, there are ones that
make you happy, sad, or just laugh. Video games can make people feel emotion that can not be
expressed in other forms of media. So then violent video games should also cause violence right,
but where is the proof that everyone is referring to? The American Psychological Association
released a paper saying that they found a clear cause link between videogames and violence but
Dr. Elizabeth Carll a co-writer of the reach has stated that video games do not have a causal link
but a link that it could affect certain young adults (Kain 20). So one of the points many people
who say video games causes violence, one of the researchers has stated that there is no direct
causal link but a link there is. Many people believe for someone to do violence and they have
played violent video games there had to be something going on before the video games came
into the picture. Many people say that video games cause violence but there is no hard data that
says that's true. Many studies do say that there is a link that does say that it can help someone
become more violent if they are already are but not cause them to become violent if they werent.
Many articles in the news and other parts of the media say that video games cause
violence. Video games are linked to real world violence and we should stop pretending other
wise(Flanagan 10). Now here it's saying that everyone that say it does not have a link are lying

or pretending that it does not but what people who have done their research have said that there
is a link but the violence has to be there to begin with and video games do not cause the violent
behavior.
Video games do not cause violence that has been the answer for a long time now and
even of we don't know everything about how the human mind works we do know how
something can influence them. Everyone sees violence in all parts of life from the TV, movies,
and the media itself. So what make video games different from this to make people believe that
video games cause violence? We think that videogames are so different than all other sources of
entertainment but is it really? Does playing violent video games make you violent or not? The
answer is no and we now know the truth behind it.
