Official Meeting Notice

n 2016, Maize USD 266 organized a new

Student Placement Policy Team to research and develop a recommended policy
that provides an equal and fair educational
environment. As a result, a new student
placement policy has been adopted, and the
proposed boundary map places all Woodbridge families in the Maize
Middle School and Maize High School feeder system starting in the 201718 school year.
Currently, the district has not had boundaries dictating which school students attend. Elementary students were assigned to a school based on
space, following older siblings' paths when applicable. When a student
entered middle and high school, families requested a school preference.
The Student Placement Policy Team identified pros and cons of four
placement methods: address/boundary; alphabetical; first come, first
serve; and criteria/randomization (students placed similar to current K-5
placement). For its transparency, among other reasons, members overwhelmingly supported address as the preferred method.

Sedgwick County was officially
established on February 26, 1867,
and bears the name of Civil War
hero Major General John Sedgwick
of the Union Army. A career soldier, Sedgwick fought in the Seminole and Mexican Wars and served
in territorial Kansas, on the Mormon Expedition, and in several
frontier Indian campaigns. While
commanding the 6th Corps in the
Army of the Potomac, he was
killed by a Confederate sharpshooter at Spotsylvania on May 9,
1864, shortly after assuring his
troops that the rebels "couldn't hit
an elephant at this distance."

vember 2013 and currently have just over $12,000 available for heavy maintenance and capital projects. This is welcome news! The Board is now discussing a project previously delayed to repair erosion around the culvert
ends on the east side of the pond.
In 2017, the annual assessment will remain $140 for each member property.
This level of assessment is proving to provide sufficient income to build project funds. The process is taking several years as expected, but we are making good strides thus far.
The breakout of the 2017 budget is presented on the left.
Although a couple individual line items have slightly
changed, the total budget is once again $12,000. Board
members will be available at the All-Member meeting on
December 6 to discuss the budget, current expenses, and
any other issues that are brought to attention. You are en-

ecently, we have heard of two instances in

which letters have been sent to members
that appear to be from Woodbridge HOA. These
letters noted supposed violations on the owners
property that required attention. However, the
letters were NOT from the HOA.
Woodbridge HOA will always send correspondence on letterhead and provide
contact information as well as a return address for our local P.O. box. The letters in question had a return address of Woodbridge with no address. The
letter was on plain paper and provided no contact information.
Woodbridge HOA helps ensure we all have a quality neighborhood, and we
pride ourselves on minimizing our covenants. We do not seek to control the
color of your house or the type of roofing material available to you. The HOA
strives to maintain a pleasant and safe neighborhood with a clean, well maintained commons area. We encourage any member to contact us with questions or concerns. If you happen to receive a letter that appears fraudulent,
please report it to a board member.

they advance to high school or graduate. All middle and high school students
new to the district will attend schools based on their boundary assignment .
On Oct. 24, a student placement policy amendment was approved that allows for
a boundary exemption for K-5 of students who have older siblings currently attending a USD 266 middle school or high school. All younger siblings eligible for
the legacy exemption must identify which feeder system they want to attend by
Dec. 14, 2016. However, students granted the legacy exemption must waive district transportation. Students may ride a bus to their out-of-boundary school
from a pre-determined bus stop, if available.
The boundary map is just proposed at this time. The Maize Board of Education is
next scheduled to meet for its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the
Educational Support Center, 905 W. Academy Ave. in Maize. The map may be
approved at this time. Visit www.usd266.com/studentplacement for up to date
information and to view the proposed boundary map.
