TROUBLESHOOTING
For connection of ECM and PC, exclusive software and connection kit are necessary.
According to a version of ECM, exclusive software is prepared.
For connection kit, refer to Part Number described. For exclusive software, contact Technical Support, Hitachi
Construction Machinery.
Because exclusive software PCSVC. Exe varies with controller, the operator is required to choose a software
according to model of controller version.
Configuration of communication software is listed below:

Communication starts with communication software PCVSC which is provided on each model according to
controller version.
Here, how PCSVC starts is explained in terms of EX3600-5 (S16R).

5.1.3.2 Troubleshooting: ECM communication
Troubleshooting when ECM communication cannot be achieved is described.
In addition, troubleshooting caused when software is rewritten for version up is described.
For details of exclusive software, refer to exclusive software Ver. 1.03 explained in 5-1-3-1 ECM Connection
Method".

TROUBLESHOOTING
Fundamentals
A pair of ECM (DMM) engine controller and communication software PCSVC is set for each model and each
version. When this pair is improper, communication software cannot start.
If a communication software can start (if communication is possible), updating is possible. If communication
is possible, updating is possible using PC.
Because internal constants are specified for each model, they cannot be changed.
Engine controller ECM (DMM) communication software PCSVC does not start.
1.
Available PCs
1. RC232C port
Is there a RC232C port (9-pin male pins) on PC side?
2. Starting is possible using FD (floppy disk).
PC having USB ports only is not applicable. USB port is recognized by Windows only, so this software, which runs with
MS-DOS, is not recognized by PC having USB port only.
2. Starting is impossible in
MS-DOS mode.
3. PCSVC
Conditions
1. Is FD inserted positively?
Remarks
Use official FD. With copied FD, starting
may not be achieved.
Is PC set with FD inserted? Refer to PC's
Operation Manual.
2. Is PC turned on after
inserting FD?
3. Is FD driver recognized
by PC?
4. FD damage.
(communication
software) does
not start.
Countermeasures / confirmation
Insert FD positively.
4. Failures of controller
2. PCSVC
does not
start.
1. After "DMMLOAD
DMM.DWN"
2. Before executing "DMM
LOAD DMMDWN".
3. Check controller version.
1.
2.
PC stops.
Statement on
screen is
improper.
When completion is not made as per Service Bulletin, there is possibility that PCSVC does not start
after completion of version up. Restart PC, and run communication software again.
Refer to "Engine controller ECM (DMM) communication software PCSVC does not start" above.
Controller version is changed after executing "DMMLOAD DMM. DWN". Start PCSVC after version up.

5.1.3.3 DMM password input/release procedures
Exclusive software for PCSVC has both a window requiring password, and a window being displayed under
standard conditions. The former window requiring password can show constants influencing significantly engine
performance and other constants.
Never change these internal constants, otherwise engine performance is deteriorated seriously, emission
regulations are not met, or engine is damaged.
For these constants, refer to 5.1.3.4 DMM Setting Items and Explanation".

5.1.3.4 DMM controller setting items
Engine controller mounted to Hitachi engine is a general-purpose type that is set and shipped for proper control
of fuel injection amount.
Controller is common to all models, except for software installed inside.
In addition, actuator, rack and fuel injection pump are assembled, tested and shipped for optimum control of
controller.
On EX1200-5 (S6R-Y1TAA1), EX1200-5C (S6R-Y2TAA2) and EX1900-5 (S12A2-Y1TAA1), setting of controller
is the same for interchangeability among them.
For EX3600-5 (S16R-Y1TAA1), min ACT is adjusted and shipped by engine, so that setting varies with serial
number. This means there is no interchangeability among serial numbers.
(Password is necessary for display/change.)
Rack of fuel injection pump is sealed. Removal of this seal is prohibited on this emission control engine.
Lots of constants are set as described here. These constants are interrelated complicatedly. Changing of
constants is prohibited.
Because most failures of engine are caused mechanically, not by software in engine controller, constants should
not be changed for troubleshooting, otherwise other failure will be caused.
Monitoring items displayed by PCSVC are listed below.
For effective inspection and repair, refer to each monitoring item.

5.1.3.5 Internal constants
Internal constants of engine controller on each model are listed below.
For EX1200-5 (S6R-YlTAAl), EX1200-5C (S6R-Y2TAA2) and EX1900-5 (S12A2-YlTAAl), constants of respective
controllers are not changed.
For EX3600-5 (S16R-YlTAAl), min. actuator is changed so that actuator output becomes 442% in high idle
range at bench test (originally, 25%).
Thus, only min. actuator is different from constants list.
Data on min. actuators shipped is listed below.
