Machinability

Waspalloy can be machined using conventional methods which are used for iron-based alloys.
Commercial coolants are used for performing machining operations.
Water-based coolants are used for performing high-speed operations such as milling, grinding or turning.
Heavy lubricants are preferred for tapping, drilling, boring or broaching.

Forming
Waspalloy can be formed using all conventional techniques.

Welding
Waspalloy is welded using gas-tungsten arc welding, gas metal-arc welding, shielded metal-arc welding and submerged-arc welding methods.

Heat Treatment
Waspalloy is heat treated by annealing at 1080C (1975F) for 4 h followed by cooling.

Forging
Waspalloy is hot forged at 1038 to 1205C (1900 to 2200F) followed by cooling.

Cold Working
Waspalloy is cold worked using standard tooling.
Soft die materials are used for producing good finish and avoiding galling problems.

Annealing
Waspalloy is annealed at 1080C (1975F) for 4 h followed by cooling.

Aging
Waspalloy is aged at 1080C (1975F) followed by cooling.

Applications
Waspalloy is suitable for gas turbines used in land/marine or aircraft applications.
