has the right to learn mathematics in a safe environment without interference.
2. Be Responsible for your learning. Come to class prepared with your completed
assignments, your pencil, paper, textbook, and other materials as directed. Put away
distractions for the period of this class.
3. Follow classroom procedures.
4. Follow school-wide Policies.
The enforcement strategies we would like to use fall into two categories: positive
reinforcement and negative punishment. The technique used will depend on the severity of the
behavior and the standard being violated.
Enforcement strategies used for mild violations of the first standard of conduct may
include proximity of the teacher, silent signals, and verbal warnings. If the behavior persists, the
student may be moved to a different place in the room, or need to visit with the teacher after
class to discuss ways to prevent further violations of the standard. If the student continues to
struggle after this, a meeting with their parents may be scheduled. Severe outburst where the
student shows disrespect to themselves, the teacher, or their peers may require having the
student leave the situation immediately- such as a brief meeting in the hall or going to a
different, predetermined class.
Since most violations to the second standard of conduct may not be immediately
correctable, enforcement of this standard the primary focus will be positive reinforcement. By
recognizing students that are acting in accordance with this classroom standard and designing
lessons/homework to be dependent on following it, students will be rewarded for coming to
class prepared and being on task. If there is consistent irresponsible behavior, the student may
attend a meeting with the teacher to develop a plan to improve on following this standard. For

subtle distractions, the first technique for enforcement will be proximity and silent signals. If it
continues, verbal warnings followed by removal of the distraction will result.
Much like the enforcement strategies for the second rule of conduct, following the
classroom procedures will largely fall under positive reinforcement. We will follow the discipline
policies set by the school or any violations of the school-wide policies.
The purpose of the enforcement strategies is to maintain a safe, positive learning
environment for all students. The strategies should not be used in a way to make a student feel
threatened, singled-out or embarrassed. Enforcement strategies should also be done in manner
that distracts from learning as little as possible.
