The TED talk presentation gave a detailed outline on how visual aids can be quite unique when

connecting with the world of biological science. The video talks about visualizing the wonder of
a living cell, but before we get to that topic, we should first understand what the term cell
means.

A cell is defined as the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism. Its microscopic
and consists of a cytoplasm and a nucleus enclosed in a cell membrane (Soanes & Stevenson,
2008). All life on Earth, whether its plants, animals or humans are composed of one of two types
of cells. These are called prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells (Simon, 2014).

With the knowledge I have acquired in Fundamentals of speech (AP 140), I have found that
visual aids tend to be more effective when communicating with an audience such as a biology
class. According to Verderber et al., (2015, p. 163), visual aid is a presentational aid that
enhances a verbal message by allowing audiences to see what it is you are explaining and
describing. Some people may define examples of visual aids only as Microsoft PowerPoint, but it
goes beyond that. Using animations, videos, props, diagrams, models, can be very effective in
your lecture (Verderber, Sellnow, & Verderber, 2015, pp. 164-166).

With that being said, the TED Talk lecture, demonstrated what a living cell actually looks like,
thus giving you a better understanding of the topic at hand. With the use of nanotechnology, I
also believe that the Ted Talk demonstrated the movement and the color of cells, as well as the
display of organs in the human body.

Although the presentational aids will be effective in helping students understanding biological
science, remember that the instructor plays an important part in the lesson. Mr. David Bolinsky
explained himself very well in educating the audience about how he came about with the idea in
using presentational aids to help people understand the truth and beauty in the biological
sciences.

As I stated in my first discussion, Science is not my thing, but when you join technology and
science together, it makes it easier to understand. In the near future, I hope that all colleges and
universities will adapt this idea. I believe this idea can change the perspective of students that
dislike biology and the other sciences.
