Todorovs Narrative Theory

Tzvetan Todorov is a Bulgarian Historian. He studied fairytales and stories

and eventually found a link between nearly all stories within the timeline
of events. He called this Todorovs Narrative Theory and it was made up
from 5 points. It is as follows:
1. The story begins with balance ( Equilibrium )
2. The story is then disrupted by an event or character (Disequilibrium)
3. The characters then realise the story has been disrupted
(Recognition)
4. There is a quest to restore the balance (Attempt to repair)
5. The balance is achieved (New Equilibrium)
Normally the protagonist of the story has to go on the quest to find
equilibrium again however some stories do not follow this pattern. These
are normally linear stories (beginning, middle and end) however, you can
get non-linear stories (e.g. end, beginning, middle and end again).
The Narration normally consists of with Todorovs Narrative Theory being
the timeline:

The narrative moves in a chronological order

There is a defined beginning, middle and end
The characters will change throughout the story and their change is
shown in the new equilibrium.
