Technology Enhanced Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Solving Quadratic Equations

Context: The lesson is designed to show students how to solve quadratic equations in
different ways. Students will also learn how to solve quadratic equations that are related to
the real world. Before the lesson is taught I will give students a brief review of their
knowledge of quadratic equations.
Objectives: Students will identify and solve quadratic equations. Students will analyze
quadratic equations in the real world.

State Standards: A2.AREI.4* Solve mathematical and real-world problems involving

quadratic equations in one variable.
b. Solve quadratic equations by inspection, taking square roots, completing the
square, the quadratic formula, and factoring, as appropriate to the initial form
of the equation. Recognize when the quadratic formula gives complex
solutions and write them as + for real numbers and .

Materials: Computers/Tablets, PowerPoint, KhanAcademy, Kahoot

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes): I will start by giving an entrance slip to see what students
remember about quadratic equations, this will help with taking attendance. I will explain
the stations that students will be rotating to. I will pick groups by having students that
usually struggle in class to be paired with those who do very well. Each group will have
four students. As a class, we will watch a video on quadratic equations.
Teacher Directed (15 minutes): I will present a PowerPoint on solving quadratic equations
and solve the equations together as a class. I will provide a handout after the lesson to show
systematically how to solve equations using different methods.
Collaborative (15 minutes): In groups, each student will solve an equation using the
different methods: taking square roots, completing the square, the quadratic formula and
factoring. Each student will show how they solve their quadratic equation.

Independent Digital Content (10 minutes): Students will take a quiz on KhanAcademy to
apply what they learned. Students will be allowed to use hints to help them solve the

Closure (10 minutes): As a class, we will play a short Kahoot game to review quadratic
equations.

Rationale:
PowerPoint: The presentation will help students learn how to solve quadratic equations
using four different methods.
KhanAcademy: Will be used to test students on what they learned in class. Help will be
given if needed.
Kahoot: A fun way to review as a class about quadratic equations. Students love to
compete. I plan to use Kahoot a lot in my classroom.
