Introduction
In this white paper will be the results of a usability test on an online free photo editor called Pixlr. This
photo editor is meant for individuals that would like to edit photos themselves without spending money
can be able to. This test shows how easy it is to learn and use this website for photo editing. Individuals
should begin to familiarize themselves with the tools in Pixlr to get a feel for what this tool does and what
the limitations are of the tool. Pixlr photoshop is an online tool used to edit pictures or create pictures.
These pictures can range from being modern and lively to animated and cartoony.

Test Environment
This test is taking place on a HP Pavilion computer, year 2014. It is being run with the latest version of
the Windows 10. The Photoshop is taking place through a Mozilla Firefox internet browser, all images
loaded have been from my personal computer and image collection
All things that are being graded here and how they work should work the same if in a very similar
environment. Changes might occur if there is an update in either the windows or version of Firefox.
Also, since this is an online photo editor in time there could be changes made to the current version of
Pixlr.

Criteria
The criteria that will be used to grade these tasks are as follow:

Test Results
Task 1:
Hitting the file button in the top left hand of the
screen a drop down menu will appear. Hitting the
sign up button will let you create an account. Here
you will give an email address, your name, and
create a password.

Task 2:
This task was fairly simple, shown in the picture hitting file then moving to open image you are able to
retrieve an image that is stored on the computer.
There are other options that will allow you to
either get images from an URL or off other
accounts such as social media.

Task 3:
Rotating an image is very easy, by clicking in the image
button between Edit and Layer you will be given the option
to rotate the image either 90 or 180 degrees. This can in
handy since my original picture was horizontal.

Task 4:
This was a bit more challenging task, I havent yet quite understood how
it is done. You are able to select the area that you
want to change be using the wand tool (image A).
After that you are able to use the paint bucket to
add a new color to the area (image B). Be aware
that this puts a color over the image doesnt
actually change the color of the image.

Task 5:
Cloning is taking part of the image and mapping over a different part. In this image I cloned the trees so
that I could hide the storage facility that is in the background. In this case I
made them look like a vine plant on a fence. The tool that is used is called
the cloning stamp. It looks like a little red stamp.

Task 6:
Blurring parts of an image will give it a more enhanced view of what someone really wants then to see in
the image. Blurring this image I took away from the background and
added more enhancement to the boots, rifle, and helmet. To blur an
image click on the tear drop tool and drag it across the image to blur
wherever you want.

Task 7:
Adding a filter to an image to change the color or sharpness of the image. On Pixlr to add a filter you
drop done the filter menu at the top of the screen this allows you to
choose a filter that you would like. Some of the filters come with
further options to change the actually filter itself.

Task 8:
Adding a layer is quite simple, going to the layers drop down menu
you are able to chose what kind of layer and wher you will get it
from. There are also options so you can decide what to do with the
layer itself.

Task 9:
Deleting layers is as simple as adding them, you again go to the drop down menu for filters in the many
options there will be the option to remove the layer. On the right hand side of the screen there will show
the layers that you have, make sure the selected layer is the one that
you want to remove.

Task 10:
Pinching the image is meant to make
something a bit thinner, be warned
though this can warp parts of the image
if not careful. Pinching the imagge is
used with the blue box tool with all the
arrows pointing towards it. In the image
the rifle has become thinner and one
boot appears to be thinner than the
other.

Task 11:
To sharpen an image it is under the filter menu, it took me awhile to find it. This will make the image have
a better resolution and better visual of things that might have seen blurred. So dropping down the filter
mebu again you will see sharpen this will sharpen the image.

Task 12:
To add text to the image there is a tool in the left side bar. It is the big A, this will allow you to enter text
anywhere on the screen. A cursor will appear, click on where you want to type
and the text box will appear. This box will allow you to type, change font, color,
size, and type of writing.

Task 13:
When undoing editing on Pixlr you need to make sure that you know what you are undoing. To do that
you look in the history on the right hand side of the screen, if you click on one of the task that you
preformed it will become highlighted. You then go to edit tab at the top of the screen the drop down
menu will
appear and the
first option will
be undo. After
undoing a task
clicking on a
different task
in
the history
menu made it
appear again.

Task 14:
Inverting an image was quite simple, it
took a bit to find. It was under
adjustments. I was also able to hit Ctrl
I for a shortcut to invert the image.

Being able to crop an image gave me the chance to get rid of the a part of the image that wasnt need
and wasnt relevent to the main idea or focus point of the image. To start I had to go to the image tab and
from the drop down menu select crop. I then had to select part of the image I wanted to keep, it took me
a bit to figure out how you select and also what part gets croped.

Task 16:
Changing the shape of the drawing tools was fairly easy. To
change the shape I started with selecting the tool I wanted to
use, the paint brush or as it is named the color switch. Clicking
the 60 next to the word brush in the top left hand corner
reveled a drop down menu where you have the options to
change shape, hardness, brightness, and spacing.

To change the type of pencil or painting tool was fairly simple, for the pencil tool it popped up on the top
of the screen under the tool bar as an option to change the type of pencil that I wanted to use. To change
the type on the marker/painting tool there are three options at the top of the screen where change in
type is possible. Clicking on all three or just one changed the type of
writing the brush had.

Task 18:
Color Balance was a little more advanced and took awhile for me how to learn it and make it work for
myself. It was under adjustment and I even learned more about what it
does. I was able to change the balance between the red, green, and
blue colors.

Task 19:
Levels are another tool that is used for adjusting the color that is
in the image, levels was found under adjustment and works to
change the levels of color in the image all at once. Levels was
fairly easy to find and was easily usable to manipulate the colors
in the image.

Task 20:
Saving the image to the computer was about as simple as saving a word document to a computer.
Hitting file in the upper left hand corner on the computer there was the option to save. Once hitting save
a pop up window asked where to save, selecting the computer option it will save to the personal files on
the computer. There was also the option on what kind of file, naming file,
and the qaulity of image. After selecting
the correct options, hit save. Filer explorer
appears and then the option to where to
save appears. Selecting the correct
location, it ended with pressing save. The
new edited image was then saved back to
my files.

Recommendations
This system worked very well for those that are just starting out with using photoshop, like myself. The
layout was nice and organized. Having the history of what changes were made to image made it much
easier to keep track of what is going on. With most photshop tools a overview of what each tool does
would make the website much more efficient. It seemed that I had to do a large amount trail and error to
learn what each tool could do. Also having the name appear while hovering the mouse of the tool would
be a tremendous help to know what each tool is named and get an idea of what the tool can do,
especially if there is no overview of the tools themselves. Enlarging the font of website would make it
easier to read and help users put less strain on the eyes. Overall it was a good experience learning how
to use this tool and I believe a few minor adjustments could help it go much farther.
