In harsh operating environments, the fan performance can
be reduced. It is due to corrosion and erosion which reduce the fan blade thickness. Due to this the fan blades become weaken and an imbalance is created in the impeller. In these cases either the impeller should be replaced or an entirely new fan should be installed. The fans can be replaced with FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) fans that can save 20-25% energy. During working, the contaminant is build up on fan blades and on other system surfaces. It decreases the fan performance. Due to non-uniform contaminant buildup, an imbalance problem is created which affects fan performance and drive train wear. Because fans are often used in ventilation applications to remove airborne contaminants, this problem can be particularly acute. Fans that operate in high moisture airstreams should be cleaned regularly. Those systems in which oversized fans are installed, following corrective measures should be take: 1. Decrease fan speed using different motors. 2. Install an adjustable speed drive (ASD) or multiple speed motor.
