Genetic testing

Introduction: We all have a family member or know someone that is affected a medical
problem that may or may not be inherited. Think about these friends family members etc.
Do you think they would have liked to know beforehand that they were going to have this
disease? Do you think it would have helped them be more prepared?
Hook:
Thesis: genetic testing and why it should be done especially if you know you have inherited
disease in your family.

Genetic testing uses laboratory methods to look at your genes, which are
the DNA instructions you inherit from your mother and your father.
Genetic tests may be used to identify increased risks of health problems,
to choose treatments, or to assess responses to treatments. ( national

Conclusion:
Getting genetic testing can help you and your family in the long run.
Insurances help cover the cost most tests especially if a doctor recommends
it. Learning about a disease you have or even if you are a carrier you can
prepare before the disease progresses and or if you want to pass the disease
on to your children. Yes, there are questions about abortions and problems
with this but Im suggesting to get tested before hand, especially if you know
you have a disease that is inherited in the family. I wish my parents were
more prepared for when I was diagnosed

Specific Goal: My audience will agree with me why genetic testing should be done
Type of Claim: This is a claim of policy
Ethos: Primary Ethos:
a) Competence: I have a genetic disorder and have had family get genetic testing
done.
b) Fairness: I will say the opposing claims then shut them down with support.
Secondary Ethos: 3 sources will be named out loud
Audience Assessment: Most of my audience members will probably have an attitude
toward my proposition that
is neutral.
Adaptation to Audience Attitude:
a. Common ground: Feel very confident about the issue, explain it well, have
examples.
b. Latitude of acceptance: most audience members have kids or think about having
kids in the future knowing about disease may help in the future.
