CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
The Television users are increasing day-by-day and they are
fond of them. The people have reached a level, so that there
is no existence without TV. Thus, in this technological world,
the people (Working people) spend some time for watching
TV at night. But they are worried of the volume. If it is less,
it is not audible. If it is more, it disturbs others. So, here is
the solution for that, where one can access the audio
wirelessly using a FM receiver embedded with good quality
earphone.
Against imported wireless Stereo headphones available in
the market for lesser price, if the components are taken
from a discarded transistor receiver, with no compromise on
performance, one can achieve the wireless Transmission of
audio signal by RF transmitter. The present system comprises of
earphones with wires and the stereo headphones, which are not economical.

1.1 Proposed System:

The proposed system consists of the simple FM transmitter circuit. As we
require receiving the RF output from the FM receiver equipped with the
good quality earphones, we are using a FM transmitter housed in a plastic
or metal enclosure. It mainly consists of two transistors, of which one acts
as preamplifier and the other one as FM oscillator and Modulator. Thus, the
two transistor system may be designed for the best operation of FM
transmitter. Trimmer capacitor VC1 connected across inductor L1 can be
varied to achieve the desired frequency. Inductor L1 comprises 4 to 6 turns
of closely wound 25SWG enamelled copper wire on a 4mm dia. air core.
The frequency can be adjusted for the best clarity audio by varying this
capacitor values. Thus, making it as efficient RF transmitter.
Most modern TVs are equipped with audio in/out, video in/out
RCA sockets. These sockets are designed to send the audio or video in and
out separately. Using an RCA-to-RCA cord, we can connect the audio
output of our TV to the transmitter input. We can also adjust the gain of the

preamplifier by varying the resistor corresponding to the amplifier circuit,
for clear reception in a portable FM receiver equipped with earphone.

A long wire of 20-30cms can be used for the antenna which transmits the
RF signal. The Transmitter draws only a mille ampere of current and
doesnt require ON/OFF switch. It can be fabricated on a small piece of
strip board. All connectors are maintained as short as possible to prevent
unwanted oscillations.

2.2.1 Input from RCA circuit:-

The jack is connected to the TV audio out. This jack acts as an input to
the PCB. This signal passes through the resistor R1 and gets loaded in the
capacitor C2.

2.2.2 Pre-amplifier circuit:-

A preamplifier is used to reduce the effects of noise and interference. It is

used to boost the signal strength instrument without degrading the signal-tonoise ratio (SNR). The noise performance of a preamplifier is critical.
Here, the pre-amplifier circuit consists of transistor BC547, resistors and
variable resistor. The signal from the capacitor C2 flows through the pre-

amplifier circuit where a small amount of noise is filtered. The theoretical
hfe () value of transistor BC547 is 110.

2.2.3 Low pass Filter Circuit:-

A low-pass filter is a filter that passes low-frequency signals

and attenuates signals with frequencies higher than the cut-off frequency.
An ideal low-pass filter completely eliminates all frequencies above the cutoff frequency while passing those below unchanged. Here, the output signal
from the pre-amplifier circuit is then passed through LPF where only the
low frequency signals are passed. This circuit filters most of the noise in the
signal.

A tuned amplifier is a type of electronic device designed to amplify specific

ranges of electrical signals while ignoring or blocking others. It finds
common use in devices that work with radio frequency signals such as
radios, televisions, and other types of communication equipment. However,
it also can be useful in many other applications. Tuned amplifiers can be
found in aircraft autopilot systems, audio systems, scientific instruments,
spacecraft, or anywhere else when there is a need to select and amplify
specific electronic signals while ignoring others.
The noise free signal is then passed through the tuning circuit where the
frequency is varied accordingly. The capacitors C7, C6 and C8 act as a
guided capacitor to the output signal i.e. these capacitors guide the tuned
signal towards the antenna. The theoretical hfe () value of transistor
BF494 is 115.
An antenna is an electrical device which converts electric power into radio
waves, and vice versa. The transmitted signal from the antenna is received
by the receiver which is incorporated within the headphone.

CHAPTER 3

3.1 DESIGN
To calculate the coil inductance value:
The inductance of a coil depends on its geometrical characteristics, the number of turns and
the method of winding the coil. The larger the diameter, length, and the larger number of
winding turns, the greater its inductance. Inductance of single-layer coils on cylindrical
winding forms can be calculated by the formula:

L1= (D/10)2*n2/ (4.5*D+10*l)

where,
L: inductance of the coil in H.
D: diameter of the coil in mm.

Page 8

l: length of the coil in mm.
n: number of turns of windings.
As per our conduction of the experiment, we have taken the values as below:
D=4mm; n=7; l=4mm;
Then L=0.1351H.

To calculate the resonant frequency:

f=

1
(2 L1 . VC 1)

where,
f: frequency in Hertz.
L: inductance in Henry.
C: capacitance in Farad.
As per our conduction of the experiment, we have taken the values as below:
L=0.1351H; C=20pF;
Then f=97MHz.

4.1 ADVANTAGES

1.

Long-distance operation: Wireless TV headphones may provide

transmission for a long range. Due to their long-distance operation
abilities you dont need to be close to the base unit.

2.

Ease of usage and noise filtering: Many wireless headphones are

popular for being lightweight and comfortable to wear and are
rechargeable. These headphones supply an effective noise filtering from
ambient sounds.

3.

Affordable prices for high quality: A good quality set of wireless

headphones can be found at reasonable prices. Many wireless
headphones are compatible with iPhones, IPods and TV sets. It adds
more flexibility to your daily life as it is not chained to any electronic
devices and has more mobility. This gadget may offer high quality
sound with wireless transmission instead of jamming the space with
cords and lines.

4.2 DISADVANTAGES
1. Wireless net chat: Net chatting option is not provided in our device.
2. Bluetooth facility: Bluetooth facility is not provided.

4.3 APPLICATIONS:
1. Can be connected to Television.
2. Can be connected to Computers, laptops, mobiles, iPods, mp3 player.
