1. What is a Law?

It is the principles and regulations established in a community by some authority


and applicable to its people, whether in the form of legislation or of custom and policies
recognized and enforced by judicial decision.
2. What is the importance of having a law in our lives?
The importance of having a law in our lives is in order to maintain peace and
safety among people and provide ways to resolve issues that do arise among individuals.
Law gives protection to the victims and punish those who have done unlawful actions. If
you disobey, you must face the consequences. If a society wont have a system of law,
people will be able to make decisions that will be based on their principles and they
would be able to do crimes if they want to, steal, murder, damage, etc., and nothing
would be done about it at all.
3. What is your understanding on the strict definition of business?
Business is an economic organization where goods and services are exchanged for
money. Every business requires investment and customers to make a profit. Businesses
can be privately owned, not-for-profit or state-owned.
4. What is Hospitality Industry?
The hospitality industry is a broad category of fields within service industry that
includes lodging, event planning, theme parks, transportation, cruise line, and additional
fields within the tourism industry.
5. What is Tourism Law?
Tourism law may be defined as a body of rules or principles of action which deals
with the regulation, authority, relations and obedience among members of a society
involved in tourist travel and accommodation.
6. What is Hospitality Law? Distinguish it with Tourism Law?
Hospitality law is a legal and social practice related to the treatment of a person's
guests or those who patronize a place of business. Related to the concept of legal liability,
hospitality laws are intended to protect both hosts and guests against injury, whether
accidental or intentional. Tourism law focuses on the national economy that act as an
engine of socio-economic growth, generate investment and foreign exchange and
employment.

7. What are the different classifications of law?


CRIMINAL LAW - Creates laws for the protection of the society as a whole and to maintain law
and order and provides punishment for those who break the laws.
CIVIL LAW - Settles disputes between individuals/companies/corporations and civil cases are
brought
to
uphold
the
rights
of
individuals
and
to
provide
redress
PRIVATE LAW - concerns the smooth running of a society and covers areas in everyday life
such as work, business dealings, employment, and education. Examples: law of tort, contract
law, law of succession, employment law, property law, family law, labour law, commercial law,
etc.
PUBLIC LAW - involves the State or government.
3 main types of law that fall into public law category
Constitutional law - controls how the government operates; resolves any disputes over
constitutional matters, for example, who is entitled to vote.
Administrative law - controls how Ministers of State and public bodies should operate
and make decisions.
Criminal law - Criminal law is part of public law because a crime is regarded as an action
against society and the state as a whole.

Private International Law - Also known as "conflict of laws". It concerns which jurisdiction a
legal dispute between private parties should be heard in and which jurisdiction's law should be
applied.

8. Why is there a need for you to study business laws on hospitality industry?
Studying business laws on hospitality industry may help us in keeping customers
safe, honoring agreement and fair marketing, protecting the reputation and proper recordkeeping. Failing to follow the laws may result to fines, lawsuits, and negative publicity.
9. What are the categories of the Hospitality Industry? What are the concept of each
category?

Food and Beverage - It is the largest element of the hospitality industry and can take the
form of high-end restaurants, fast-food eateries, catering establishments and many other
manifestations. The food and beverage trade can symbiotically function as part of other
businesses, such as in bowling alleys or movie theaters.

Accommodations - Hotels, bed and breakfast enterprises and other places offering
lodging represent a broad segment of the hospitality industry.

Travel and Tourism - Another chief segment of the hospitality business encompasses
transportation. This includes airlines, trains, cruise ships and the staff for each. Flight
attendants and cruise staff function as food servers and hoteliers in their efforts to provide
food or drink and a comfortable experience. Business travelers and vacationers alike form
the basis for this area of hospitality.
