My name is Christopher Hughes. I am 24 years old and am seeking full time employment as a lawyer at your firm in
Adelaide, South Australia. I have recently graduated with a double degree of Law and Journalism and think I would be
a great addition to your law firm. I consider myself to be a passionate, hardworking and highly driven person willing

I would like to specialize in Intellectual Property law, and would like to be considered for employment in either the

coursework for both practice areas and have done significantly well in each. I have achieved high grades in my law
courses throughout my five year double degree as well. These include Principles of Intellectual Property, Torts A and
Torts B, Law Society and Justice, Criminal Law and Procedure, and Administrative Law. I have also achieved a
distinction average in all of my Journalism subjects. I have successfully completed a graduate diploma in legal
practice (GDLP) and am eligible for admission to practice in the courts of South Australia. However, given the
opportunity I would be willing to work in one of your equally esteemed firms interstate.
I have always been incredibly passionate about law, and am willing to take on any challenge within this industry.
Given the opportunity, I would very much be willing to contribute to any other practice areas that you specialize in as
well. One of my main goals in life is to prove myself and work up the ranks in the legal industry. Although I have little
experience as a practising lawyer as yet, I consider myself to be a fast learner and am willing to learn all necessary
skills and participate in any training opportunities.
I have experience working as an intern for the newspaper The Age, and also for the ABC. From these internships and
from my Journalism degree I feel I have gained a strong grasp of the necessary skills for all means of professional
communication which would be a great advantage in providing a high level of client and commercial service. During
these placements I effectively worked alongside numerous professionals and am familiar with what it takes to support
a team and work productively, which I believe is essential to a workplace.
I am currently a writer for the far-reaching Iris Magazine, The AU Review and On Dit Magazine. I believe these
editing and management skills have benefitted me in being able to dissect different legal issues and clearly lay them
out in an easy to read and professional manner. I feel like these skills would prove to be an advantage for me in my
employment, specifically in preparation and editing of documentation.
My tertiary education has taught me the importance of workplace respect and professionalism. I am able to fully
digest a large case load and consider myself an efficient worker in a shared team environment. I also show great
initiative when working independently and take great pride in my independent achievements.
