Is your IT project failing? Is it too expensive? Have you lost all focus and control? Or are you not getting the results you
require? Then Agile Scrum could be the answer you are looking for.
1. Agile
In a changing world, new approaches for Project Management, Software Development and Business Change Management
are sought after, as budgets overrun, requirements are changing during the project and timelines shift out of control.
The new approaches should enable increased flexibility, dialogue and the ability to process new information quickly. As a
result, Agile methods in particular are coming to the fore and growing in popularity.
Some main characteristics of Agile:
Iterative, incremental and evolutionary
Efficient and face-to-face communication
Very short feedback loop and adaptation cycle
2. Scrum
Within the Agile methodologies, Scrum has become especially popular. Scrum basically defines roles (like Product Owner,
Scrum Master and Scrum team member), events (like Sprint Planning and daily Scrum) and artifacts (like Product backlog
and Sprint backlog). Using these Scrum techniques and methods enables flexibility and a quick reaction to emerging
changes during a project.
3. Benefits
Various research studies have indicated that projects using the Agile approach are much more successful than those
using traditional approaches with lower agility. For example, a recent study1 by The Project Management Institute found
that projects with a high level of agility scored higher on all of the main project success metrics, including more than 30%
higher in terms of meeting or exceeding ROI.

4. Professional Development
ICT professionals with knowledge of more traditional approaches to Project Management, Software Development or
Business Change Management, need to adapt by updating their current knowledge and skills with relevant training and
certification on Agile and Scrum. This will ensure they have right competences to cope with the fast changing project
environment of today.
5. Qualifications
EXIN has responded to this changing world by developing the EXIN Agile Scrum qualification program, a unique
combination of Agile methodologies and Scrum practices. EXIN has also added the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner
certification to the product portfolio.
