Rationale
The reason why I want to conduct this research because reading is one of the most
important skill in English. Nowadays, there are so many students who are still lazy to
read. They are still lazy to read usually because they are still lack of vocabulary, so
they did not understand the meaning of the words in the text. Besides that, the
learning style of the teacher or the technique teacher use usually do not interesting. If
the technique do not interesting, students will get bored in the class. So, it can make
the teaching and learning in the class do not effective. Based on some problems
above, the teacher should find the interesting and effective technique in teaching
English especially in reading skill. Collaborative Strategic Reading can be one of the
interesting and effective technique in teaching reading.

Research Problem
Is there an improving achievement of teaching reading using Collaborative
Strategic Reading (CSR) on The Eighth Grade Students Reading Comprehension

Research Design
The research design is Classroom Action Research. This research design is in the
form of quantitative research. I choose Classroom Action Research because I want to
know whether or not there is an improving of teaching reading using Collaborative
Strategic Reading (CSR) on The Eighth Grade Students Reading Comprehension
Achievement at SMPN 1 Gumukmas.

1. Objective
The objective of this research is to know whether or not there is an
improving of teaching reading using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on
The Eighth Grade Students Reading Comprehension Achievement at SMPN 1
Gumukmas.
2. Significance
The significance of this research for English teacher is to make the
teacher more understand about the technique and also to give contribution. If
the teacher can understand about the technique, the teaching and learning in the
class can be more interesting for students and more effective. The significance
for students is to motivate the students to learn reading comprehension and they
will have new experience of learn reading using this technique. The
significance for the other researchers is to give inspiration and deeper
knowledge to teach English especially in reading skill using an interesting
strategy. I also hope that this technique can work well to help the students to
improve their reading comprehension achievement.
