LESSON TITLE: [Short Vowel i i sound in the middle]


At the end of the lesson, SS will be able to:
Recognize the words that have i sound in the middle.
Recognize the short vowel i and its sound in newly acquired words.
Contents

Greet SS. / Do High-fives. / Sing the Hello song.


Ask about the Date / Day / Weather.
Check the attendance.
Make teams and write the team names on the board.
Set and reinforce classroom rules.

SS will review the key sound and the keywords.


(Review should be done very quickly and with speed.)
Draw SS attention.
Inform SS that they are going to review the last lesson.
Write the letter(s) on the board and have SS make the sound.
Drill the sound 3 times.
Flip the FCs (from the back to the front) to review the sound and
words.
T says, SS repeat, /i/ /i/ insect (with medium speed).
T flips, SS say the words with speed.
SS will learn the words that have the medial sound /i/.

Draw SS attention and watch the Introductory Animation on the


e-lesson: Medial Short Vowel i.
Reintroduce the letter and the sound it makes.
T says, The letter Ii makes the /i/ /i/ sound.
T says, SS repeat, i /i/ /i/ (letter-sound-sound).
Introduce the words that have the key sound /i/ as the medial
sound.
1. Introduce each word with the FCs (show picture side first).
2. Then, introduce the letter side of the same FC point out the
key sound in the word.
T says, The word pig has the /i/ sound in the middle
(point to i).
T says, SS repeat, /p/ /i/ /g/, pig!
3. Show the letter side of the FCs to SS and go over each word
quickly.
T says, SS repeat, /p/ /i/ /g/, pig! drill 3 times.

should help SS make associations between the word and the definition.

SS will practice the words that have the key sound as the medial
sound.

Attention Grabber: Refresh SS mind through short physical activity.


1. Have SS stand up and pair up.
2. SS do high-five with their partners: Right hands together/ Left hands together/
Both hands together.
3. Tell SS to lift up their hands and say: Hooray!
4. Have SS sit up very nicely.
*This activity should be done quickly.

Show the e-lesson page Fill & Chant Medial i.
1. Have SS listen and repeat the keywords in the chant.
2. Have SS identify the missing sound.
T shows the sound card and says, /p/ /i/ /g/ or
/p/ /a/ /g/.
3. Check the answer with the e-lesson.
4. Play the chant and have SS listen.
5. Go over the lyric and practice chanting with SS (without
music). Then, chant with SS (with music).
At the end, clap for SS good work.

* SS can chant along as a whole class, in teams, or individually. T can invite SS to


the floor zone, and show them how to do actions for the keywords while chant
along. Give pts to the enthusiastic team.

Activity 2: e-lesson Practice Medial i (SB pg.102) (5mins)


Show the e-lesson page and enlarge question no.1.
1. Have SS say the name of the picture and the missing sound.
2. Invite one student to the e-lesson zone and put the correct
sound card/write the correct sound in the missing place.
3. Check the answer with the e-lesson. Drill the answer with the
whole class.
Repeat the procedure for other questions.
At the end, clap for SS good work.
*T can skip 3 questions if there is not enough time.

Activity 3: Sticky Ball Game (5mins)


Set up a red line at a reasonable distance from the board.
Display FCs on the board.
Have SS say each word out loud as T puts each FC on the
board.
Instruct SS how to play the game.
1. Have each team decide the Players order.
2. Invite Players 1 from each team to come up and stand behind
the line.
3. Say a word randomly. Then, after Ts signal, Players will throw
sticky balls at the correct FC on the board.
4. Check and drill the answer with the whole class.
5. Have the Players go back and sit down. Give pts to the
winners team.
Repeat the procedure with the rest of the Players.
At the end, clap for SS good work.
SS will reinforce the lesson through self-practice.
Work on SB pgs.102, 103.
Use the book to give instructions and assign the exercises.
After the clear instruction, allow SS to open their books.
SS do the exercises by themselves (set clear time limit -2min).
Check the answers together. Drill the sound and word each
time.
Clean up and organize the desks. Clap for SS good work.
SS will review the key sound and the keywords.

Phonics & Reading Lesson plan

Flip the FCs quickly to review the words that have the /i/ sound
as the medial sound do choral drilling.
T says, SS repeat /p/ /i/ /g/, pig!

Do the Phonics song/chant.


At the end, have SS sit very nicely.
Avoid using physical games towards the end of the class. It is
important to settle down the SS before they step out of the
classroom for safety reasons.
Count the pts to choose the winner team.
Choose the best student of the day to be the Captain.
Push chair in. / Line-up. / Say Goodbye. / Leave the class quietly.
