Introduction

The AquaDrive organization is the future of tomorrow. From land, sea or air, we strive to
move towards a cleaner, safer and efficient world of transportation. By utilizing what we
consider a vast resource, water, we can leave an enormous & effective global footprint for our
generation and generations to come.
At AquaDrive, we manufacture high quality modes of transportation that run on clean
and pure H2O. We also Research and Develop ways to replace or reduce the use of natural gas
to power transportation. Through our persistent and economic approach weve been able to
build a foundation that upholds and administers the ISO standards: 9001, 14001, 50001
amongst others.
II.

Objectives

The objective of this assignment is for AquaDrive to develop a CORA (Customer Oriented
Requirements Analysis) so that the end user (customer) would have confidence and loyalty in a
product that they purchase. Through customer satisfaction & customer service, including
feedback, surveys, product discussion forums, AquaDrive can develop sustainable products
through the voice of our customers.
III.

Methodologies

The methodologies in this project that were applied are as follows:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

TQM (Total Quality Management):

Lean Six Sigma
ISO 9001, 14001, 50001
GMP & cGMP
PLM (Product Lifecycle Management)
Overall Cost Analysis (Production & Reduction)
Customer Input & Feedback

These are the main methods that we apply to our process so that we can become the worlds
number one suppliers of sustainable and environment friendly transportation.
IV.

Main Body of the Project:

a. Chapter 6 in 3D eBook

IMG_1122: The customer requirements in this image was a boat propeller

that would sustain harsh conditions such as rust. The customer would have
wanted something that would not deteriorate in different aquatic conditions.
IMG_1123: Like many other parts in a boat, the assembly of the nuts and
bolts in this picture seems to have been damaged by corrosion. The
requirements here, again, would be products that are rust/corrosion
resistant.

IMG_1145 to 1151: These groups of pictures are all in reference to surface

damages on a boat. The customer requirement here would be a type of
surface material that does not easily get damaged from normal to extreme
conditions. Either some type of paint that is not susceptible to wearing off or
some type of wood that can withstand water and object damage to a certain
degree.
IMG_1157 to 1159: These are images of the docking platform where boats
are stationed. As a customer, the need for sturdy & stable docks would be a
requirement as well as ample space between two or more boats per station.
Also the need for resistance to rusting or molding should also be a
requirement.
IMG_1171 to 1174: These images are of the heart of the boat, e.g. engine
parts. Being that these parts are susceptible to air (therefore easily oxidized),
a customer would want the parts to be made from high grade material in
waterproof housing so no damage can be done. It could be also that the
company who produced these materials did not account for air/water
damage during the PLM cycle.
b. Chapter 7 & 8 (Developing CORA)

c. Main requirements & Solution processes of CORA
AquaDrive, Inc. is a company dedicated to the succeeding of the business and
marketplace by using our customers voices to develop our product. We
understand that customer requirements and expectations can make or break
our product. Therefore the following 3 steps are a focus of our CORA study:
Defining the scope, function and purpose of the project
Identifying user requirements
Prioritizing potential requirements

So after a thorough investigation involving customer service & satisfaction,

our company has ranked the customer requirements are from 1 to 5, 5 being
the most important.

5. Vehicle Safety Rating
6. Available Inventory
7. Environment Friendly
8. High Grade Quality
9. Easy To Maintain (Service)
10. Little to No Recall
To fulfill customer needs the following processes or programs are
implemented:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

e. Analyzing CORA
Using CORA, our company can advance farther in the market than any of the
competing companies. It shows that we establish sustainability of our
product by listening to our customers and giving them what they want. At
AquaDrive, we believe that the voice of the customer is a critical
requirement. From the CORA, we can see there are 3 main areas of
importance that AquaDrive will consider: PLM (378), QC (318), and QA (312):
1. PLM (Product Lifecycle Management): A focus on this area will help
ensure the life of our product, in any form. We can assure our
customers will have a sufficient and long lasting product to run a
long time.
2. QC (Quality Control): Any manufacturing company has or should
have a QC department. Regulating our transportation vehicles and

holding them to a specific set of standards can give confidence to

our customer they are receiving a high grade product.
3. QA (Quality Assurance): As with QC, manufacturing companies also
have Quality Assurance departments. These departments not only
manage the paperwork, administrative and logistics of QC, they
make sure any product being manufactured or being sent out to the
market is made within certain conditions and those conditions are
controlled.
f. AquaDrive will work with the following companies in a collaborative
approach to achieve technological advancements:
Land Rover Discovery: Using the off road and sports utility technology that
Land Rover employs, AquaDrive can use their technology to help AquaDrive
learn how to implement that technology in our transportation vehicles. The
prototype we developed lacked a sense of road adaptability which Land
Rover can help cover.
BMW Group (Mini): Using the BMW Group (Mini), we will have a better
understanding of adding luxury & sport to our vehicles. Be it that we develop
a car, boat or airplane, it will have the speed, look and fuel efficiency of a
premium mode of transportation. Being that the company already makes
sustainable types of equipment (electric cars). Our companies can form an
alliance to create hydro-electric cars with both a practical and luxurious
thinking.
California Motors: Using California Motors, AquaDrive will enlist the use of
their Quantum Technology to develop our transportation vehicles. As per
PLM, the company produced a product that meets all of the customers
requirements. That is, they built something that can be used for non-tactical
operations which the Army wants. They also built, as per CE, something that
is eco-friendly (hybrid engine), which speaks to the green phase of CE.
Cognex Corporation: Mainly all manufacturing companies strive for a six
sigma level, to a point of zero or almost no defects. This system provides
statistical trending and relevant data (Mean, max, standard deviation, etc.).
That can be relied on to make adjustments and theoretically produce parts
before they become defective. Using their system we can implement a defect
free mode of transportation or at the very least low level of rejected vehicles.

My comments: Many homes have separate units for heating & cooling, and
at times it can be a little nuisance. For example, homes that do not have
central air systems installed have to resort to the use of fans, A/C units, and
portable heaters in different areas of the house. Being able to have one
singular unit that can work year round would eliminate not only setup time
but also can decrease electricity costs.

My comments: In developing mobile technology, Google has done a great job
of being able to make users seamlessly move through their phone without
difficulty. With Android's latest update, they've gone a step further in the
way users view and respond to notifications.

My comments: A large component of technology these days is the portability

of it. Being able to use items such as laptops, mobile devices, tablets, etc. on
the go using batteries is a big form of wireless and seamless communication.
It's definitely a smart idea to invest that not only can improve the experience
but also keep the use of these items safe, especially in recent news with the
cell phone manufacturer, Samsung, being subjected to product recalls with
unsafe devices.

Summary
The overall objective and mission of this assignment was to establish a CORA for
AquaDrive. This tool helps our company realize what the areas of focus should
be as far as customer requirements go. CORA gives us an in depth understanding
on how customer requirements impact the success or failure of the business.
The subsequent tool used in conjunction with CORA is a beta version tool called
the Ranky-Taguchi calculator, which also ensures the production of high quality
and long life cycle products.

VI.

Future Work Proposed

Using the CORA and Calculator tools, as well as QFD analysis learned in the
previous assignment, AquaDrive can drive towards being a global leader in the
fuel efficient, H20 driven modes of transportation. AquaDrive also understands
that the needs of the customer may change over a lifetime of the company,
therefore a team will always be assigned to constantly monitor these tools and
recommend changes going forward.
