manymaterialsenteringtheprocessaremanagedseparatelyinbatchstockswithdifferentspecifications.
BatchAbatchisaquantityofthematerialproducedduringagivenproductionrun.Abatchrepresentsahomogeneousunitwithunique
specifications.ABatchisasubsetofthetotalquantityofamaterialheldinstock.Thesubsetismanagedfromallothersubsetsofthesamematerial.
Dependingontheplant,materialandoperationallevelswecanchoosethelevelatwhichyouwantthebatchnumbertobeunique.Thematerial

IftheBatchlevelissettoPlant/Materialinyoursystem,thefollowingapplies:
Thebatchnumbercanbereassignedforamaterialwithadifferentspecificationineachplant.
However,youcantransferastockfromoneplanttoanotherbetweenbatcheswiththesamenumber,eventhoughthebatchesdonotnecessarily
havethesamespecification.Insuchcases,thebatchquantitytransferredassumesthespecificationofthedestinationbatch.
Ifyouwantthebatchspecificationtobeuniqueacrossallplants,youcanonlyachievethisthroughorganizationalmeasures.Thesystemdoesnot
supportthis.Inthiscase,youarerecommendedtoswitchtoahigherbatchlevel.
IftheBatchlevelissettoMaterialinyoursystem,thefollowingapplies:
Abatchhasthesamespecificationforallplantsatwhichamaterialisstored.
Thesamebatchnumbercanbereassignedwithadifferentspecificationforeachmaterial.
IftheBatchlevelissettoClientinthesystem:
Thesamebatchnumbercanonlybeassignedoncewithintheentireclient.
Itisuniquelyassignedtoonematerialnumber.

Aproductionlotcanbemanufacturedinseveralproductionruns.Thesametechnicalrequirementsapplytotheentireproductionlot.Theresultof
eachproductionrunisabatch.ExampleInthechemicalindustry,youwouldusetheterm"productionlot"ifamaterialismanufacturedinseveral
chargesinareactoraccordingtothesameprocessorder.Theresultofeachchargeisabatch.

IntheSAPR/3System,batchmasterrecordsalwaysdependonmaterialmasterrecords.WepostbatchesFORamaterial.Youmustfirstcreatea
materialmasterrecord,stipulatinginitthatthematerialistobehandledinbatches.Thismeansthatyouhavetoenterabatchnumbereverytime
thereisagoodsmovement.Theindicatorforbatchrequirementiscontainedinthefollowingviewsofthematerialmasterrecord:Salesand
distribution,Generalplantdata,Purchasing,Workscheduling,Storage1,andWarehousemanagement.Eveniftheindicatorappearsinseveral
views,itisthesameindicator.Ifitissetinoneoftheviews,itisdisplayedasbeingsetinalltheotherviews.Ifamaterialchangesfromamaterialthat
isnotsubjecttobatchrequirementtoonethatissubjecttobatchrequirement,youhavetopostoutallthestocksfromthepreviousfiscalyear,the
currentperiod,andthepreviousperiod.Youcanthensettheindicatorforbatchrequirementandpostthestockbackintothesysteminbatches.
Thesameapplieswhenyoucancelthebatchrequirement.Inthiscaseyoualsohavetoreorganizethebatchmasterrecords.Youcanthenresetthe
indicatorforbatchrequirementtoblankandpostthestockbackintothesystem.
Youcancreateabatchmasterrecorddirectlywhenmaintainingmasterdata.Alternatively,youcanspecifythebatchnumberuponthefirstgoods
movementforabatch.Thesystemthencreatesthebatchmasterrecordinthebackground.Batchnumberscanbeassignedinternallyorexternally.

Thesystemcalculatestheshelflifeexpirationdatethefirsttimeabatchisreceived:Itiscalculatedfromthedateofproductionplusthetotalshelf
life.Youspecifythedateofproductionwhenmakingthegoodsreceiptposting.Ifthetotalshelflifehasnotbeenstoredinthematerialmasterrecord,
youmustentertheshelflifeexpirationdateatthispoint.Thedifferencebetweentheshelflifeexpirationdateandthepostingdateistheremainingshelf
lifeofthegoodsreceived.Itmustnotbelessthantheminimumremainingshelflifefromthematerialmasterrecord.Ifitwereless,thesystemwould
respondwithawarningoranerrormessage,dependingonthesettinginCustomizing.

BatchSpecificUnitofMeasure
Thebatchspecificmaterialunitisanalternativeunitofmeasureofamaterial,forwhichyoucandefinetheconversionratiointothebaseunitof
measureonabatchspecificbasis.
Whiletheconversionratiofortheotheralternativeunitsofmeasureisfixedinthematerialmaster,forbatchspecificmaterialunits,youhaveto
define:
*Theplannedconversionratiointhematerialmaster

*Theactualconversionratiointothebaseunitofmeasureinthebatchmaster
Youusebatchspecificunitsofmeasurewhentheratioforconversionfromtheunitofmeasureintothebaseunitofmeasurecandifferfrombatch
tobatch.
Thesealternativeunitsofmeasureinclude:
*Proportionunitthisistheunitofmeasureinwhichyoucanenterproportionsofthebaseunitofamaterial.Thetotalorphysicalquantitycan
consistofseveralproportions.
*Productunitthisunitofmeasuredescribesthetotalquantityofamaterialasanalternativetothebaseunitofmeasure.Forexample,onepiece
ofaparticularbatchweighs10kilogramsintotalorisapipeof1250millimetersinlength.

BatchValuation
Thesystemvcanbesetuptovaluateeachbatchindividuallyinaccounting.Eachbatchwillhaveaspecificprice,storedinavaluationtype.
