This scenario of the student is very relatable to a lot of college
students who also feel pressured because of everything dealing with school.
Katya is scared about losing the opportunity of getting a scholarship if she
performs poorly in an exam. This makes her feel stressed. Katya has a GPA of
3.0 but has a lack of self-confdence that can affect her exam anxiety.
Based on my experience, midterms and fnals are always the times of
the semester when I feel stressed. Just like Katya, I also feel pressured and
nervous before the exams for being afraid of not passing. This usually occurs
in one class that I always was struggling throughout the whole semester. Ive
been a full-time student ever since I started college, and theres always at
least one class each semester that I struggle throughout the time. It is the
one that gets me the most pressured because I feel the need to pass that
class. There are other classes that I feel that I do better but I do not feel
notable, so my self-confdence doesnt boost up still because of the one class
Im at risk of failing.
Based on the recommendations that I found, Katya should look for help
from a counselor for both academic and heath purposes. These individuals
are professionals when it comes to situations like these. Theyre experienced

in helping students and are there to give the best advice they possibly can. It
is also very likely that they had to go through situations like Katya in the
past. I found two possible ways that Katya can use in order to reduce anxiety
for the future and help her with her upcoming exam. Katya can apply some
mindfulness-based activities in order to reduce her stress levels and become
more positive and calm. Medical students are usually the ones who go under
a lot of academic pressure that can really affect their personal lives. There
was a study were students were part of a meditation program and it came
with great results for the students. Comparing them to the group of students
who did not take part of the meditation program, the medical students
stress and anxiety levels had reduced and their self-confdence has boosted
up (Shapiro, 1998).
Students like Katya are not alone when it comes to the feel of pressure
due to the preparation of an exam. These students have the resources in
schools in order for them to take advantage of, such as academic and health
counselors. Meditation and aerobics exercises can help reduce her anxiety
levels and also boost her self-confdence for the future.
