Activity Profiles in Shipment Processing

Purpose
This article explains what is activity profile and its usage within shipment processing both outbound and inbound processing scenarios.

Overview
Activity profiles define activities that are to be carried out in the shipment document when a certain status is set for that shipment. You can define
a different profile for each status (planning, check-in, completion, etc.) Possible activities that can be carried out as the status is set include:
Add to the data in the dialog box
Post goods issue for the deliveries in the shipment
Create invoices for the deliveries in the shipment
Print certain outputs like delivery, handling unit or billing outputs etc

Set up of Activity Profile

You can use activity profiles to define which actions are to be performed once a shipment reaches a particular status. For example, once the
shipment reaches "completion or shipment end" status, the system should perform the goods issue or different outputs or billing automatically in
the background for the respective delivery documents. There is a provision to assign different activity profiles for each statuses of the shipment.
One of the prerequisite is to maintain the variant in customizing per shipment type for status that is to be carried out. You can influence what
activities needs be carried out using this variant when the statuses are set.

Define and Assign Activity Profile

To configure the activity profiles, choose Define and assign activity profiles in the Implementation Guide (IMG) > Logistics Execution >
Transportation > Shipments > Define and Assign Activity Profile > Execute
For example if you want to carry out goods issue and billing automatically in the background. Proceed as follows:
Now select your shipment type for example 0001. The columns in Figure 1.1 shows the various statuses of a shipment documents such as
planning, check in, completion, and so on. For each status, you can specify an activity profile. Select from the list of available profiles, or to set up
a new activity profile, you can enter a profile name and click the Maintain button.
As shows below in the activity profile for shipment types screen, choose shipment type 0001 against the status "At completion" and enter the
custom activity profile name "ALV" and click maintain button

In the next screen as shown below, you can select the radio button "carry out the goods issue posting in the background" and also activate the
flag for "Carry out billing" options.

Technically, the program RV56ABST is being called in this transaction. You can set the options on the selection screen of this program and save
the variant for further use.
