dence » against pest control products. The O.C.F.P. report has abso-

No one can prove pesticides are 'safe'.

The Ontario government has recently concluded that we must ban cosmetic
uses of most pesticides, for the health of Ontario's children. It made the
right decision.

Determination of " acceptable risk " involves not only science, but an assess-
ment of what society finds acceptable. The Ontario government's decision to
follow Quebec and many of Canada's major municipalities reflects a judg-
ment as to what is acceptable that is more aligned with opinions of epidemi-
ologists working with public health bodies and the Canadian Cancer Society.

proaches. The net conclusion from the data I have seen is that conscious-
ness and our physical selves separate not only before death but obviously at

Before the Ontario prohibition of pest control products, the City of To-
ronto had already legislated its own restrictions on the outdoor use of pest
control products. Toronto’s elected officials accepted the principles re-
lated to « politicized science » for justifying its abuse of power.

IFTHERE HAD BEEN NO T ORONTO PROHIBITION , IF T ORONTO OFFICIALS HAD NOT SUP-
PORTED THE PROHIBITION , THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ONTARIO PROHIBITION .

Many elected officials and employees of the City of Toronto squandered

time and energy, at the tax–payers’ expense, to forge public policy that
conspired to prohibit FEDERALLY LEGAL , SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE , and TOTALLY IR-

tario. This allowed E.P.O. to influence public policy regarding « cosmetic
pesticides » despite the fact that E.P.O. is supposed to be a non–partisan
agency that is not mandated for this kind of malicious activity.

weed–free lawns. This proposed ban is precaution at its best; it will reduce
the risks children face from exposure to pesticides. ― August 2007

We support the overall intent of banning the use and sales of cosmetic pesti-
cides in Ontario. ― 2008

People are concerned about pesticides and how they are regulated by the
federal government. Despite the fact that federal regulation of pesticides
has been improved, we must recognize that the scientific evidence in sup-
port of registering pesticides is never entirely complete. The assessments
of pesticides, done by the federal government, result in a determination of
"acceptable risk," not a determination of "safety. More important, it is es-
sential to recognize that the scientific evaluation of every pesticide occurs

citizens who will no longer be exposed to some very toxic substances.
